We dont always treat patients ON THE TABLE. Depending on the task that needs to be performed, we may place them in a position that is meaningful (and sometimes uncomfortable) to them.
@nick.nom is a powerlifter who injured his shoulder during a squat 3 weeks before Nationals. So we placed him in a position that the shoulders arent comfortable in, and passively treat the body in an active position so the body can adapt to this posture more confidently and as fast as possible.
... First, get them out of pain, then get them ready for what they need to do asap

ANKLE SPRAINS - Rehab the movement pattern
one of the worst feelings is when you jump and land on someone's foot, twist your ankle and you are out of action for the 3 weeks. Then you sprain it again not long after you return. And it's a constant cycle until you have no ankles left.
After an ankle injury, I see too often netball and basketball players jumping on a wobble board or balance board to "make the ankle stronger" because their physical therapist told them to do it or ...they saw on instagram the "best ankle rehab exercise".
Here's a little twist to the concept of rehab for ankle sprains that alot of people arent doing correctly.
The body is amazing at adapting to the environment it is being placed in. For example, If we want to improve a weightlifters overhead press position, we will place their arm in an overhead position with weights to LEARN and ADAPT that position until they can OWN it. If we want to become better long distance runners, we will run longer and longer each day to increase our cardiorespiratory capacity.
Same concept for the ankle and rehab in general. As a netball player who only plays on a flat surface, needs to adapt and be familiar with the ground with different external stimulation depending on what needs to improve. They dont necessarily need to learn how to be awesome at balancing on a wobbly board. That's not a priority.
This patient is a netball player who recently rolled her ankle in inversion after stepping on a players foot. We have placed this patient in the position she injured herself in, so first, she can learn and develop the reflexes and stability that can kick in if she ever does step on a foot again. Secondly, this will also boost her confidence in this position as it has been programmed in her brain now to be one of the most fearful positions to be in.
Be sports or movement specific with your rehabilitation!

DRY NEEDLING
often associated with acupuncture, this amazing treatment tool has been used by many chiropractors and physiotherapists around the world to assist with all sorts of musculoskeletal injuries such as tendonitis, back pain, shoulder and knee pain.
By definition, it is opposite to wet needles(obviously) which requires a particular injection. In contrast, the concept of dry needles is to cause an effect and regulate the muscle tone, ligaments, tendons and the surround...ing fascia by stimulating the area we want to target using thin acupuncture needles.
Dunnings 2014 study on the clinical implications of dry needling mentions that "several studies have demonstrated immediate improvements in pain and/or dissbility"
So painless that most people usually dont even know when it's in or out (whether that's a good thing or not) with the effects being almost immediate !
@carlito5_waay here is our amazing powerlifting coach at @adonisathleticscastlehill, who also happens to be a powerlifter himself. his right foot and leg has not been quite the same and has been MILDLY bothering his lifts. Even a 1% uncertainty and hesitance to use your body is not acceptable especially when lifting 200+ KG off the floor, so we made sure the needles worked the magic on him.

this is a cross section of a human nerve!
these are considered the "cables" between your brain (power source) and communicating tissue and organs (output), hence the powerful and complex structure to relay information back and forth.

Greg @mishka_power has been training 5-6 days a week for his next strongman competition, whilst working full time on his feet and studying to become a qualified personal trainer.
At @kinetic.sports.chiro there are alot we assess, treat and rehabilitate during our session to "undo" the physical stress and damage done to the body at work, school and work outs.
If your neuromuscular system is stressing more than it can handle, it can eventually breakdown and dysfunction occurs, ...even with absence of pain. Make sure to get checked !
