Kogarah Intensive English Centre

This morning, classes 2J and 3J were involved in a wonderful incursion where the Taronga Zoo zoomobile came to Kogarah IEC. They saw many amazing animals and insects up close and almost everyone was brave enough to touch the baby snake! A big Thank You to MYOP and the Australian Red Cross for making this experience possible.

Last Tuesday, Ms Tweedie's 4J class went to the Sydney Story Factory. They wrote interesting and entertaining stories with the help of some amazing story writers!

In Art class today,students continued working on the Subtext Program with their talented art mentor, who assisted the students to creative the beginnings of their mural while developing communications skills.

4J had a lot of fun celebrating three birthdays and enjoyed a delicious homemade brownie birthday cake made for them especially by their teacher. Making lots of happy memories to reflect back on in the future, makes going to school fun!

Today we made pizzas from scratch! Students followed the recipe and the pizzas tasted amazing. 🍕👨🏼‍🍳🤠

Artists from The Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation are working with out students on the Subtext Program: the program brings Art for Literacy is an intensive art project that merges arts with the written word to provide a powerful means for young people to express the complex, diverse aspects of their pasts, presents and futures. The program provides our students with inspiring and talented art mentors, who assist students to explore new, creative ways to express their experiences and ideas.
This artistic process becomes a way to facilitate conversations, communication skills, language development, reflective practice and literacy.

Students began their KTME photography journey with Eliza from 3Bridges Community Youth Services. They walked around Kogarah, got to know the community and took some photos. They will be going to many places the next few weeks!

It was a full house this afternoon at Our After School Learning Centre with so much enthusiasm, positive energy and healthy snacks. All welcome.

Our international students gathered for their special weekly meeting with their specialist coordinator at lunchtime today. Various items were discussed including the school camp and tips for improving English.

On Tuesday, 5S went with Ms Tweedie to Social Connections with Beverly Hills Intensive English Centre at 3Bridges Community Youth Centre in Hurstville. They participated in various challenges, played games and experienced what is on offer at the Youth Centre. Remember anyone can go there during the holidays!!
