Ever since I can remember, I have always been mesmerised by faces. As a teenager I used to spend hours locked in my bedroom, drawing and painting faces. My favourite musicians, actors and heartthrobs turned out to be very patient subjects as my paintbrushes and pencils got to know their faces intimately!

Another fascination of mine is contrast - the way in which light and dark can be so perfectly juxtaposed, it creates a depth that makes a flat image come to life, using only a couple of basic colours.

This is what my artwork is all about. Of course, capturing a likeness is important, but breathing life into a portrait is always my ultimate goal, and utilising contrast makes this possible. One or two key colours keep it simple, yet effective.
