Perfect paddling conditions and a great group of families on our guided tour at Myall Lakes national park yesterday.

Perfect paddling conditions on this mornings tour. Can you spot the cheeky dolphin sneaking past which we only spotted later once it was in front of us. Along with dolphins we spotted a Brahminy Kite, a Whistling Kite, White Bellied Sea Eagles, Black Swans, Egrets, Herons and many Cormorants. Looking forward to more great conditions for tomorrows tour!

Yesterday was World Migratory Bird day. This video explains exactly how far some birds fly. Hope to see some of them on the estuary when they return next year.

Beware of dolphins when paddling...

Well who says you can't beat the legislation. Thanks to everyone who emailed the Deputy PMs office and to the hard work of many kayak and canoe rental and tour operators we have been informed by Kate Johnson from the office of the Deputy PM that the exemption for unpowered craft such as kayaks and canoes has been reinstated into the Marine Safety (Domestic Commercial Vessel) Levy legislation!
Big thanks to Shannon O'Brien from Sydney Harbour Kayaks - Sydney Australia. who brought this to ours and many others in the industrys attention and helped bring us all together to provide a united voice from within the industry!

A message for all our friends and valued customers - we need your help.
Australia's kayak hire and tour businesses are being targeted by the Deputy Prime Minister. He is planning to imposed a "safety tax" of almost $5,000 a year on Lazy Paddles. This levy disproportionately impacts on kayak operators when compared to other commercial operators.
More information can be found here: https://www.amsa.gov.au/…/cost-recovery -levy-national-system
... A good summary of the issues can be found here: https://outdoorsvictoria.org.au/new-marin e-safety-law-to-im…
If we don't appose this levy our prices will dramatically increase or we will be forced to close our doors.
Please help our campaign by sending the following email to the Michael McCormack, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport.
Thank you.
______________
Hon Michael McCormack MP Deputy Prime Minister Minister for Infrastructure and Transport michael.mccormack.mp@aph.gov.au
Dear Minister,
I enjoy kayaking and use the services of Lazy Paddles Guided Tours and Kayak Hire, in Tea Gardens on the mid-north coast of NSW.
Having access to affordable guided tours and kayak hire allows me to stay fit and healthy. The service that Lazy Paddles provides is essential for an activity that I love doing. I can rent a kayak for only $25 per hour, which I consider real value for money.
Lazy Paddles also provides high quality equipment, education and advice to ensure that I am safe out on the water. They offer knowledgeable advice on the local conditions and provide and fit life jackets. I have enjoyed a safe paddling experience every time I hire a kayak from them.
Your department is about to introduce a cost recovery levy for services under the National System for Domestic Commercial Vessel Safety. Up until recently, all commercial kayaks were exempt from this levy.
The per vessel levy for Lazy Paddles will be $44 per vessel in 2019, $104 in 2020, $167 in 2021 and $193 in 2022. They currently have 25 kayaks, which will attract a fee of $4,825 in 2022.
Lazy Paddles is a small family run business. It is listed as the number one thing to do in Tea Gardens on TripAdvisor. Lazy Paddles have informed me that the cost of the levy will be very difficult to absorb and that they may be forced to close their business.
Without this local business many beginner paddlers will not receive any safety advice. With the subsequent increase of unskilled paddlers, the Myall waterways will become more dangerous. Many paddlers will be unaware of safety regulations and therefore rescue costs will increase.
I urge you to reconsider this decision and reinstate the levy exemption on commercial kayaks.
Yours faithfully,

The weather this week has been lovely (despite the forecast). Thanks to everyone who joined us for a paddle - we've seen hermit crabs, egrets, herons and lots of cormorants fishing in the river. What have you seen on the Myall River this week? #teagardens #NewSouthWales #lovethegreatlakes #seeaustralia
