Construction on the $41 million redevelopment of Anglican Care’s CA Brown Village at Booragul (south-west of Newcastle CBD) officially commenced last Monday.
The Anglican Bishop of Newcastle, The Right Reverend Dr Peter Stuart, was joined by Anglican Care chairman Malcom McDonald and chief executive Colin Osborne to launch the build.
“The re-development of the CA Brown site will expand and improve upon the care and services available to residents,” Mr Osborne said.
... The development will include 126 single en-suite rooms, 18 of those being dementia specific, a purpose-built day therapy centre, café and a number of multi-purpose spaces including a chapel.
The redevelopment will bring employment to about 1500 people over the course of its two-year construction period, peaking with 160 local workers per day.
Spearheaded by Project Managers APP and Hunter construction organisation Core Property Group, construction is expected to be completed by April 2020.
The Booragul site is considered the spiritual home of Anglican Care, as it was its first aged care facility when opened 60 years ago.

A recent report from CoreLogic suggests the current safest market for buying off the plan is the Central Coast. It was the only major region in the Greater Sydney area where prices increased over the 12 months to August, growing at an average rate of 1.6%.
Home seekers still have a wealth of opportunities to purchase units off the plan in areas where prices are increasing — despite a wider slowdown in the Sydney housing market.
Property experts said price falls in the wider S...ydney market have not affected every suburb, which has meant families who do their homework can buy units off the plan with little risk.
The biggest risk for buyers is that if the market is declining the price they pay may actually be higher than what the property will be worth when it is completed. This means suburbs where values are still rising are safer bets for off the plan buyers.
Buyers should check the reputation of the developer before purchasing. Check the details on finishes. Rather than saying a ‘stainless steel’ kitchen, you want them to be specific on the type of appliances like Miele or Smeg that are being used.
