Mac - Museum Of Art And Culture Lake Macquarie Description

The Museum of Art and Culture Lake Macquarie (MAC) is an exceptional cultural and tourist destination, widely recognised for its exhibition program and work with the community.

Located on the shores of Australia’s largest coastal saltwater lake, the leafy grounds include the award-winning gallery with cafe, retail shop, mosaic pathways, and a sculpture park. MAC is unique among regional galleries due to its location and quality of programming. Touring shows alternate with gallery-curated exhibitions featuring nationally significant artists, many of whom share a connection with the Hunter.

Contemporary visual arts, craft and design practice is the main focus of our exhibitions, and respectful Aboriginal projects are a strong component with focused Aboriginal programming through yapang.

The museum can be reached easily via the lake foreshore cycleway, the water or by public transport. Have you visited the Gallery shop lately? You may have seen the recent delivery of jewellery from 'gleaned' by artist Kes Harper. Kes combines sterling silver with upcycled materials from decorative steel tins (think olive oil, cookies and exotic spices) to create a unique jewellery range with a casual elegance. 'gleaned' handmade jewellery is created in an off grid solar powered workshop in the hills of the Lower Hunter Valley, NSW.
... Kes will also be taking some of the Gallery's upcoming school holiday workshops teaching participants to how to create their own jewellery from steel and copper wire.
Bookings are through eventbrite. You can find more information about school holiday workshops and upcoming term 4 classes on the Gallery's website or by contacting visitor services.
