Getting our noses on.... One of the true joys of being a paediatric dentist is the ability to go to work and be a big kid !

As a paediatric dental practice we see superheroes everyday. They come in all sizes from the newborns to young adults. How often do we remind our children that they are indeed superheroes packaged in smaller sizes ?

Earlier this month we spent a week in Vanua Levu, the northern island of beautiful Fiji. We were grateful for the opportunity to provide much required medical and dental care to communities with limited access to the quality of care we often take for granted in Australia. This is a project that has been run for over a decade now and our team has always been looked after by these local communities. Such projects rely heavily on resources, manpower and various stakeholders and sponsors. From our minuscule (dental) perspective here's a big shout out to GC Australia Dental and Dentavision for providing much-needed supplies to the project and people of Fiji. A big "Vinaka Vaka Levu" to Kye Grech, Shanna Hayward and Shay Robinson for going above and beyond!

We are so proud to partner with B1G1. Every time something great happens to us at Macarthur Paediatric Dentistry, something great happens in the world. When we see a new patient at Macarthur Paediatric Dentistry, it turns into 20 days of access to an education program for a disadvantaged child in India. Together we are never too small to create an impact. Thank you all for your support.

A child should visit their dentist within six months of the eruption of the first tooth or by age one. This is beneficial in order to help children and their families institute a lifetime of effective preventive care and good oral health. Establishing this relationship with your dentist is the concept commonly referred to as "Dental Home", and allows comprehensive, easily accessible care focussed around the family to be delivered. It is also an opportunity for your dentist to be able to identify any potential problems early.

Brushing your baby's teeth soon after they first erupt with a size appropriate toothbrush and with full strength fluoride toothpaste (1000 ppm) has proven to be the best protection against tooth decay. Children 0-3 years should use no more than a small smear of fluoride toothpaste. Kids toothpaste offers NO benefit in protecting against tooth decay.
