Cosy, small, well stocked with good mix of books of most genres. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable in helping to search for books. Parking is a challenge though.

Come into Maclean's to hear Ryan O'Neill talk about his new release 'The Drover's Wives', a collection of surprising and comical re-imaginings of Henry Lawson's famous short story. Ryan's previous book 'Their Brilliant Careers' was shortlisted for the 2017 Miles Franklin award. Not an event to be missed!

Big crowd at Newcastle Region Library tonight to hear about the book “No Friend But the Mountains”. Author Behrouz Boochani is on the phone from Manus Island detention centre, and translator Omid Tofighian is here in person.

There are so many great new Australian children's books out at the moment! Here are a few of our faves...
The Peski Kids: Utterly hilarious! A great start to a new mystery series from the author of the Friday Barnes books. Three squabbling siblings. One all too perfect next-door neighbour. A missing mum, a bumbling dad, a kooky cockroach mystery and an eccentric country town... What more could you want? Ages 9+
... Hive: The first book in a new dystopian duology for young adults. Betts has created a fascinating world with an enclosed, self-sufficient community based on the structure of a beehive. A compelling story of a naive and inquisitive heroine whose curiosity leads her into trouble...
The Only Ones Left: A thought-provoking picture book about all the endangered native animals we share our home with, posing the question - what would it be like if we were the only ones left? The book includes a short glossary of a few endangered species and the types of threats they face.
Natural Born Loser: The story of school 'nobody' Raymond who is reluctantly thrust into the spotlight when the new principal makes him a prefect. A fun tale featuring some great messages about self-esteem, team work and defying people's expectations - even your own. Ages 8+
