Reaching new heights - What an amazing achievement by our alumni Michael Tomordy, 47, who has climbed Mount Everest!
Michael, who graduated from his Masters in Management with Technology in Hong Kong in 2005, raised funds for The Mount Everest Foundation for Sustainable Development in Nepal and Tibet (MEF). The foundation exists to help local families build schools, hospitals and environmental projects in remote areas close to Mount Everest
Michael was fully sponsored by his ...employer, Engage Asia Ltd, a technology and risk consultancy, that supports employees with time and financial support for social endeavours.
His team was among the last on the mountain and when they left the High Camp at 7,900m there were no other teams ahead of them going for the summit - which stands at a cool 8,848m!

Fictional Wall Street character Gordon Gekko may have famously declared "greed is good," but today's business students would disagree. Students care about social responsibility! They are likely to boycott brands that cause environmental damage to thinking about how they can limit energy use and trying to live more responsibly as well. The results come from the third major report into the state of corporate social responsibility and responsible management education, conducted by associate professor Debbie Haski-Leventhal from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management. http://macq.it/2vY5p3s

Thank you to those members of our alumni community who attended our inaugural Meet the Deans event on 17 August. It was fantastic to have you all at our City Campus to network and hear from Peter Wolnizer, Dean of MGSM, and Stephen Brammer, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics.
Together, the deans shared their common vision for the future of business and management education at Macquarie and how that will build on the proud heritage and ongoing achievements of the MGSM MBA.
We’re looking forward welcoming more of our alumni to future events in this series. Stay in touch for updates! http://macq.it/2wgxQGD

Team Alpha Taktics (TAT) is a group of MGSM students that has been quietly making a name for itself within the Asia-Pacific Region. After placing in as second runners-up at the ICAP Asia-Pacific Case Challenge in Hong Kong earlier this year – the highest placed Australian team – TAT were invited to Shanghai last month to compete against 30 other teams from across the Asia Pacific region in The Fresh Connection APICS Global Student Challenge, Asia-Pacific Finals.
Says team mem...ber, Dan Santos: “The competition is an operations/supply chain management competition run by 'The Fresh Connection'. We were given control of a fictional juice company with global supply chain issues, which was failing, and the task was to turn it around.
“In round one, we took a big hit and we're chasing our tails from that point. This forced us to take bigger risks to attempt to close the gap to the leading teams, and while we made progress it was not enough to win, and we finished in 18th place, receiving a bronze award.
“The experience gained for having represented MGSM on the Asia-Pacific stage twice within six months is something we will carry with us forever. We have not just enriched our careers but also grown on a personal and cultural level. Hong Kong and Shanghai are two of the world's greatest business and cultural cities; we competed against the continent's brightest and met the most respected industry professionals from different global companies.”
