Madison'S Mountain Retreat

We did not stay the night but popped in to see the alpacas. Very friendly staff and I even got to take the alpaca for a walk and feed them. Thanks for your hospitality!

For $400 a night and from the advertising we expected something special. We could not have been more disappointed. We were in train 1 which is next to the road. It smelled strongly of damp. There were condoms left in bedside drawer, old looking cobwebs and hair in the bed. The pool was cold and the spa empty. The common room is very tired and dated. This should be advertised as absolute budget accommodation and the price tag should match. We suffered one cold smelly night despite having the heater going all night (the heat just sucks out of the carriage) and cut our losses and cancelled our next night and headed home early. We hope this review saves at least one family from making the same mistake that we did.

The train carriage rooms are delightful! The breakfast hamper provided is so fresh and thoughtful. Common room is full of books, DVDs, games and some simple beverages. Customer service is warm and responsive.

This place has been taken over by new owners. Previously you were able to drop in unannounced on your way up Bells Line of Road, pat and feed the alpacas. It was enjoyable a few years ago. You now need to book in advance for a short visit and it must be for groups only. Ultimately Madison's Retreat is only for guests paying for accommodation.

needs an upgrade . pool was dirty and breakfast fair , you need to cook your own, kids got bored. cabins are to close to eachother
