Keen to get down to MakerSpace to take a look, meet the team and find out a little more about what goes on here? Come to our monthly MakerSpace Monday!
We’re excited to introduce our August Speaker Aj!
Aj has been in the workshop recently decking out her van and it couldn't be looking any finer! Her job at seaside scavenge has her on the road frequently and she wanted to create a space that could travel with her and to conduct work out of. Seaside scavenge is a waterway clean...up and clothes swap combined event that has traveled across Australia cleaning the places everyone loves. Come and hear AJ talk about her work and show her van revamp!
The MakerSpace Monday format is simple - our members will give a brief presentation of what they've been working on, we'll tour you around the MakerSpace facilities and answer your maker-questions, including brainstorming your next project or helping you come up with something great to make!
Everyone is welcome! This event is free for members and $10 for non-members, covering a little beer and any excess goes into our new-tool fund. Become a member and you can vote for the gear you want next!
Come and hear our stories and check out how we do what we do.
(Please RSVP using the ticket link so we have a rough idea of numbers).

A huge thanks to Chelsea for making the trip from Canberra to Marrickville last weekend to deliver her unique parquetry workshop. It was such a special treat that the MakerSpace workshop was buzzing on Sunday when we would otherwise be closed!
The weekend was spent learning how to achieve traditional parquetry patterns as well as unique patterns inspired from nature and its forms. We have already seen some final product photos and they are looking incredible!
Not only does she have the best name in the design industry, but such an innovative and creative approach to work. Can’t wait to have Chelsea back again in the future!

Anthony spent the day throwing and trimming some beautiful pieces in our ceramics studio. If this is just his starting process we can only imagine what the end products will look like!

Beautiful old trees lovingly carved into beautiful new spatulas.
The City of Sydney awarded us a grant to find a use for 6 lovely old trees that were removed from Joynton Ave in Zetland. They were given to us with the intention that they would somehow return to the community. In conjunction with City of Sydney and 107 Joynton Avenue Creative Centre, a free spatula carving workshop was held last Sunday. People came by to learn how to carve wooden spatulas and by using this wo...od everyone was able to take home a piece of the tree and new found skills.
The remaining wood will be going towards some exciting new classes being held at MakerSpace such as steam bending and carving - Classes are yet to be announced, so keep an eye out!
Big shout out to Orest who initially applied for the grant and organised the event. Also our dynamite helper/carver extraordinaire of the day Clare.

Decorative techniques for ceramics, often referred to as Surface Treatment
Arguably the more creative aspect in ceramics and options are a plenty! Surface treatment is the step that allows you to add colour, texture, pattern and design to your ceramics.
In our Intermediate Surface Treatment class you will learn surface design for 3D ceramic objects and how this influences the look of the piece also using it as a feature of your work. The class covers a broad overview of al...l the major decorative techniques, utilising the right technique for your design and the complexities of each technique. It is also a major factor in small batch reproduction as some techniques can be reproduced.
These are some of the looks that can be achieved during the surface treatment process. Full credit to our members and special shout out to Antonia Presenti for the beautiful designs.
Next upcoming class Surface Treatment: Intermediate Thursday Nights 6-8pm 28th June, 5th, 12th & 19th July 8 hours in total
