Koonoomoo lessons start in a few weeks and Rutherglen at the end of the month. We keep class sizes small so more one-on-one we address everything from obedience manners and behavioural issues. Our lessons go for approx an hour and half and we have plenty of time for q and a or extra help at the end of each lesson.

What the point in being able for get your dog to sit or drop if you can’t get the three D’s DISTANCE DURATION AND DISTRACTIONS. On mondays we visits the nursing homes in Rutherglen with jack our therapy dog. With the sun shining we decided to take advantage and go for a little walk.

To most this is just a picture of a dog being pat but it’s sooo much more and a very proud moment for owner and myself!!
My first lesson ever with bosco and I had to throw the equipment to him from a distance there was no way I could even think about getting close he was growling and lunging. After private lesson we calm him down a fair amount but a hand going towards his face to let him sniff would still result in a growl from him particularly if it was a male. Last lesson ...he started to go to people on his own only female but was still a big step. Today he got a pat from a female who he was very good for but when a male (who he been growling at every lesson) went near him with a hand out he growl again. By the end of the lesson bosco was getting a pat from the man as you can see still a bit unsure in this picture but it ended in butt scratching and that he was happy with.

Today lots went on we got some dogs walking around “off lead” but still not allowed to eat food on the ground rush up to any of the other dog jump on anyone or take anything from the four kids walking around. We had toys being thrown and kids running around all dog did fantastic.

Before training this beautiful girl wasn’t able to be walked by her owner. She was launching towards other dogs and people and the owner had lost confidence in her ability to hold on or control her. For our last lesson we went on a nice 20min walk a small dog walked past in the distance and a person walk right past us on the footpath both time she remained controlled and calm
Next step is bring her to our group lesson which the owner feel is now able to be achieved.

Second lesson for our koonoomoo class and already have dogs in drop step away(stay) with high distractions around (balls and buster walking past) with owner over five meter away some up to 10m already. You can also see some dog getting released from their drop while other have to stay and wait for owner to return. Not many other place could say they get your dog to this level this quick dogs are listening to their owner without food rewards instead they getting pats and cuddles for doing the right thing.

Today Rutherglen group lesson learn walking on leash under distraction as well as leaving food and toys and strangers if required. This is a big step to getting a dog that you can trust off lead. Ps forgot to take some picture so here one from a couple of weeks ago of beau in a drop step away.

We train a dog for what the owner requires jim is a hunting dog but was scared of the shot gun but no problems with a rifle so today we built up his confidence around the shot gun with already having langue and trust that we built up during obedience commands it was pretty easy getting him more comfortable around the gun and on the right track to being a duck retriever soon.
