Masuda Gallery has returned in an exciting collaboration with Space 145 in Glebe following the closure of our location in Darlinghurst.
Masako has been hard at work with Sue Vail to bring together a collection that explores the beauty of handmade Japanese, South East Asian and Oceanic objects and textiles. The selection honours the refined hand of the traditional craftsmen, infused with a deep respect for the organic rhythms of nature.
For vintage and antique enthusiasts, th...is collaboration showcases a range of Masako’s collection of rarities and curiosities.

MASUDA GALLERY ‘Curate’ in Latin means to take care. In medieval times it described a priest who cared for souls. We all want to simplify events in our world and to understand them. The modern world in which we are live is much more complex, especially with the internet and technology. Why can’t we enjoy the moment to talk to nature and sit down with hand made things to keep some balance in our body and soul? Why can’t we use simple words to explain our passion, curiosity? I use my Japanese heritage as a tool to enable to sharing with others. That is the essence of Masuda Gallery and I am proud to be the curator for this gallery.

Nestled away in Sydney’s inner-city, Masuda Gallery was founded on the idea that objects can inspire dialogue across cultures. This small and intimate space was created to showcase a wide-range of textiles, select vintage pieces; works on paper; ceramics and other decorative arts from Japan in a setting that mirrors the everyday rather than that of a shop or conventional gallery. Working with form, colour, texture, space and light, the aim is to share the aesthetic ideas of entrenched in Japanese culture as seen in these objects both new and old.
