Melinda’s Chicken farm is a lovely 100acre farm, placed in the rolling hills of Mullengandra, south east of the Riverina /NSW.

I've decided to go back to simplicity. Where chickens were chickens and free to express themselves naturally. I always wanted to raise free-range, healthy chickens like my grandfather did, so that I could continue his joy, love and passion for these feathered animals. With the knowledge, this wonderful man taught me, a lot of research, dedication and love for our country life, I felt ready to give my chicken farm a real go.

My chickens enjoy the sun, scratch for bugs and roam the paddocks on our beautiful 100acre farm, placed in the rolling hills of Mullengandra. They are pecking the seasonal grasses, seeds and grains which helps their development. Nothing artificial is added to their feed and no hormone injections, antibiotics or pesticides are used. They are grown in a free, natural and protected environment and are happy chickens as a result.

As a Mum of 3 it's been a dream to create a healthy, respectful lifestyle for my family and the animals around us, to raise my kids in a sustainable environment with fresh and local food. To develop a business like this and to have the opportunity to share and broaden my chicken into the wider community is such a pleasure.

When you do something you love and you see people’s faces when they come back to order their second chicken - I realize I have done the right thing. I’m so delighted when they tell me how much they love the large meaty birds, firm and full of juicy flavour that feed the whole family for one, two or even three meals.

As a local and having grown up in this wonderful region, I am passionate about local businesses and believe in their significance. I love talking to people at the markets and return customers – meeting people who are passionate about what they eat. But my happiest moment is when I walk out in the mornings, with my gorgeous Maremma dogs Yoshi & Mia at my side, and see my chickens walking around in the large open paddocks, picking, clucking and looking for a warm sunny spot to sit. I smile, the dogs lie down next to them and I know my grandfather would be very happy with what I’ve created.

With this passion, emotion and care being put into my business, I believe that I can truly make a difference in the way chicken meat is portrayed and I feel like I have finally perfected the tastiest chicken on the border!
