Mental Health Movement Description

My name is Dan Hunt I am a former NRL player. I played 150 games for the St George Illawarra Dragons over 10 years. During this time, I have struggled with and overcome many adversities.

I have also studied at both TAFE and University in the areas of Social Work, Mental Health, Community Services, AOD, Fitness, Business and Career Development. Since retiring I now work with the St George Illawarra Dragons in Community and Partnerships and with the NRL as a Community and Mental Health Ambassador.

I believe it is important we look after our mental health. We need to do this through education, recognition of signs and symptoms and developing correct coping strategies and support networks that can help us maintain a good mental health.

We also need to look out for others and be there for them when they may face adversity and struggle. We as individuals need to start the conversations, ask the questions, we need to care. They say you can’t help everyone, but I believe everyone can help someone.

When I was struggling I felt alone, I didn't know where and how to get help, I had no understanding of mental health or mental illness and I was scared and thought it was weak to ask for help. I don’t want other individuals to experience what I did so I started my own business Mental Health Movement.
Its purpose is to educate, break down the stigma and promote and teach people the tools, support networks and coping strategies in and around mental health.
