Mhc Mental Health Clinic - Tooradin & Koo Wee Rup Description

Julie-Anne Peake, Clinical Psychologist MAPS
Bachelor of Arts (Psychology & Psychophysiology),
Bachelor of Applied Science (Psychophysiology Honours),
Master of Psychology (Clinical)

Julie-Anne completed her Psychology studies over 6 years at Swinburne and Deakin universities. She has treated more than 3000 clients in her 13 years experience as a Psychologist - people of all ages, genders and nationalities. She has heard the life stories of many people and has a broad range of conditions that she treats. These range from more common conditions like depression and anxiety, to more complex disorders where personality disorders, severe trauma, medical conditions, drug and alcohol dependencies, and intellectual disabilities can be present as well. As well as her studies in Psychology, Julie-Anne also studied Psychophysiology for 4 years at Swinburne University. This has helped her gain an understanding of the biological basis and treatment of mental disorders. Julie-Anne's broad knowledge base ensures that a thorough assessment occurs to help her fully understand her clients' situation. This helps to guide diagnosis and create individualized treatment plans for her clients.

Julie-Anne's treatment approach is biopsychosocial in nature. She has a strong emphasis on unconditional self-acceptance and offers a warm, safe, non-judgemental environment for her clients. She works collaboratively with people - on the same level - to help them find solutions to their issues and often uses humor to make things memorable. Julie-Anne believes what we tell ourselves has a huge impact on how we feel and she uses various cognitive behavioural therapies to help challenge and change people's thoughts for the better. She has trained extensively in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) but uses many other therapies to help her clients move forward. She is very down-to-earth in her approach and explains things in an easy to understand manner.

For ten years, Julie-Anne owned and built up Psychology 4 Change Pty Ltd in Dandenong which employed 4 reception staff and had 14 practitioners treating 300 clients per week. She sold this bulk-billing practice in 2014 due to poor physical health but has now opened up the Mental Health Clinic in Koo Wee Rup to offer the people of south eastern Victoria quality and effective mental health care.

Before she was a psychologist, Julie-Anne was employed in receptionist /administration roles in the manufacturing area, she was a personal carer for young adults with quadriplegia, she worked night shift as a sleep scientist at Monash Medical Centre, and was a research assistance for Monash University, Department of Psychological Medicine. She also undertook several years as volunteer worker for the Schizophrenia Fellowship of Frankston (now the MI Fellowship of Vic). She has been actively engaged in helping the community, being Treasurer of the Hallam Recreational Committee of Management for many years, as well as a netball coach and umpiring co-coordinator for the Hallam Netball Club.

Julie-Anne is a Medicare, EAP, VicPol, DVA, TAC, WorkSafe, Victims of Crime and Private Health Insurance Provider.

* A current MHCP and referral letter to the Mental Health Clinic Pty Ltd stating the number of sessions is needed to access Medicare Rebates. If you have used your MHCP elsewhere this year, just a new referral letter addressed to us and a copy of your MHCP is all that is needed. It is also a good idea to call medicare before your consultation to find out how many sessions you still have available for the remainder of the year. You should be eligible for a further 10 sessions from 1st January each year.

** Private health insurance rebates can vary depending on the policy you have taken out. Please check with your provider that you have extras cover for clinical psychology sessions if you are wanting to access their rebates.

*** For WorkCover and TAC clients, a referral letter from your treating GP stating that psychological injury has occurred from a road or workplace incident, along with the date of injury, is required. These agencies often decline claims, so it is important that you make sure that 1) you have a claim and 2) that the request for psychological treatment has been approved.

**** For those who have been the Victim of Crime, Julie-Anne is happy to work with you through the process of making your claim and getting your sessions approved. It is useful to have a MHCP in place as a backup until your sessions are fully approved.
