The unexpected surplus of August at #melliodora this year is... violets! So many. We’re eating them on top of salads, mainly, and breathing in big deep gulpfuls of violet-scented air whenever we pass their patches. .
These ones grow under the kiwi fruit trellis on the western side of the house - a great winter-flowering groundcover that doesn’t mind deep shade in summer, when the kiwis are in leaf. And they’re fire retardant, too, another good reason to plant masses of them r...ight near your door. All the things. What’s been your biggest harvest of August? #permaculturedesign . .

It's tomato pricking-out day today. Taking the two-leaf babies from their trays, and transferring them each gently to a pot of sieved compost. From here, they'll grow strongly and develop nice big roots, until it's time to plant them outside in November.⠀ .⠀ Are you keen to grow best-ever tomatoes this season?
