Mindme Description

Elizabeth Cook of MindMe is an accredited MHFA Instructor and Australian Registered Occupational Therapist, Mental Health. She instructs workplace, business, government, community, volunteer or not-for-profit groups or individuals in the national Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Course.

In the Mental Health First Aid - Standard Course, participants learn how to identify, understand and respond appropriately to an emerging mental or substance use problem or crisis.

The evidence-based program effectively increases knowledge of mental disorders, reduces stigma surrounding mental illness and boosts confidence to respond appropriately, in participants.

In the standard 14 hour course (2 full days or 4 half days), participants learn about depression, anxiety and trauma, psychosis, substance use disorders and self-injury. They learn a 5 step action plan to help people, including how to approach people and assessing their risk of harm or suicide, listening non-judgmentally, giving reassurance and information, encouraging appropriate professional help and other support strategies.

Participants are able to become certified Mental Health First Aiders in their workplace, volunteer group or community. Many professionals can count training towards their Continuing Professional Development points.

The course is given in central venues or within the workplace or not-for-profit organisation (min. 8 participants) as part of Workplace Health & Safety requirements.
