About Moama Community Garden

Moama Community Garden is a shared space that provides the opportunity to meet people, exchange ideas, have access to and grow fresh fruit and vegetables.

Moama Community Garden Description

Getting involved in the Moama Community Garden can be a very rewarding experience. It’s a great way to meet new people, garden and take home delicious fresh produce. You can grow your own nutritious food and enjoy the company of like minded community members, while getting into the great outdoors.

Murray Shire Council has a role as landowner and is committed to supporting the sustainabilty of the Moama Community Garden.

Whilst most backyards in Echuca Moama are large enough to provide space to accommodate individual vegetable gardens, people love the notion of Community Gardens, as they become a place for meeting people, exchanging ideas, helping others and collectively growing delicious fruit, vegetables and herbs.

A Community Garden is a shared place where people of all ages, experience and abilities come together in a supportive community context to experience the rewards of gardening while having access to affordable fresh fruit and vegetables.

Community Gardens are places for learning about plants, food, soil, compost, using water responsibly and about each other.

Gardening has many health and therapeutic benefits. Community Gardens play an important role in the wellbeing of many people who would otherwise be denied the chance to till the soil and enjoy the health and nutritional benefits of fresh homegrown produce. There are obvious economic, social, educational and environmental benefits to participants and the community at large. A Community Garden can help improve food security for participants by increasing their physical and economic access to adequate amounts of healthy foods.

Other benefits include:
• Easy and affordable access to fresh fruit and vegetables
• Healthy outdoor exercise
• Meeting and making friends with people in your community
• Learning new skills and sharing knowledge
• Improving local environment, by increasing biodiversity and decreasing carbon foot print
• Relaxation and reduced stress levels
• Developing a sense of community through participation in a common project.
