Over the last 18 years I’ve become totally obsessed with leadership and the impact it has on small business results, and perhaps more importantly, the happiness of its people at work and in life. The obsession began when I started my career as a 20 year old in a negative, unwelcoming and unsupportive environment. It was so awful, I’d go home and cry nearly every night. As I shared my story with friends and family I found, I wasn’t the only one who was unhappy in a working environment.

After my manager left, and the whole team had resigned, I was given the opportunity to step up as the leader. As a 22 year old, I had very little experience in the business and no leadership skill. All I knew, was how not to do it, so I did the opposite of what my manager had done.

With that and a brand new team, we got to work. In the following financial year we turned the business around $144, 000. That was over 18 years ago and as a result, have devoted my career to discovering what it takes to run a sustainable and profitable business with happy and empowered employees.

I am now an author, speaker and trainer on how to be an effective leader in small business, to reduce staff turnover and increase productivity and profit in small business!

Now more than ever we need small business owners to step up and run successful and profitable businesses. Small business employs over 44% of the employed population in Australia, it is the heart beat of our economy.
