Mr. Nick'S Babysitting

The elusive male early childhood teacher helping to educate young children with a mans style.

Hi everyone! My name is Nick or as a lot of kids I have worked with, Mr. Nick! I have worked in the childcare industry for over 4 years now and loved every minute with all the kids. I have been lucky enough to work not only with physically /mentally disabled children but also their parents in helping them fit in and get the most out of their first few years and absorb as much as they can while they can.

A bit about me, I have lived in the US for 6 years and had the experience of volunteering on an ambulance corps for 3 years helping the community. When we came back to Australia I worked in a hospitals ICU for 8 months and then joined the army for a short time. Afterwards I worked in security for 5 years and then the recent childcare stint. I love kids and am lucky to be very approachable to many children especially shy, introverted, quiet children who have trouble fitting in to the loud ways of most other children.

I have a Certificate III in Children services and also a Certificate to Identify and respond to children and young people at risk as well as a few development conferences which included lectures from people like Kathy Walker, Russell Ballantyne and Peter Whiteman. Who spoke of things such as, Understanding the brain to understand the child: Behaviours and practise, Importance of the process NOT the project, Music and movement as central to children's lives and Exploring adult attitudes to "testosterone based play" and how to harness the best from this hormonal prompt.

I have recently switched career paths and am working towards becoming a paramedic but in the mean time and while thats going on I would love to babysit and continue to see at least some of the children I have taught and cared for in the past as well as new wonderful children, no matter how difficult you parents think they are!
