Mr. Wong Description

Layered with timeless colonial furnishings including timber floors with tiled inlay, bamboo framed French woven chairs and slow turning ceiling fans, Mr. Wong pays homage to classic Chinese influences in a contemporary style. The Cantonese-style menu features over 60 dishes as well as an unrivalled dim sum selection.

Sprawled over two levels, the 240 seater Mr. Wong is one of the largest restaurants in the northern end of the Sydney CBD. It offers a range of dining options varying from private dining rooms and large group tables, through to intimate tables for two and seating at the open kitchen.

Located within an easy walk of trains, buses and parking stations, it’s perfectly placed for a quick lunch time snack, pre and post theatre suppers, late night dining, large celebratory events and family get-togethers.

Beautiful restaurant but food was average and limited choices of dim sum which cannot compare with real Chinese yum cha. It also wasn't impressed that before we sat down they already asked us to leave in 90min. I never had yum cha in that rush in my life.. No more next time.

User

WOW!! Best Peking Duck we ever had!!

The Dim Sum was sooo good!!

And the best part of this very cool restaurant, is the service. Very professional and so polite.
Very refreshing.

Very happy customers. :)

Very popular but made me wonder why. My husband is a huge fan but I feel its way too overhyped. They won't take booking for 4 people or less so you need to line up for hours to get in. It felt like they wanted you to wait to show that restaurant is popular/busy but I could clearly see plenty of empty chairs. Has an extensive wine list so if you like that you will love this place. My husband loves the ambience but for me its only mediocre.

User

Fantastic dining experience. The staff were delightful when we went for our wedding anniversary, and they went above and beyond to get us a booking. Large wine menu and a good selection of beers. The food is incredible.
As expected, you do pay for it in the bill so not an everyday restaurant but definitely worthwhile on occasions.

User

By far the best Chinese restaurant in Sydney. For me, nothing else compares to the flavours and atmosphere. Been here for multiple meetings and personal dinners and can definitely say that while the prices are a little hefty, the quality is unbeatable. Definitely a go to spot if you're needing to impress a client or want to enjoy a special occasion. Would highly recommend the deep fried ice cream, mango pudding and beef short rib.

User

Lovely places, decor is great!! Staff very friendly & helpful!
Food was great, we got the assorted dumplings/special fried rice/ sweet&sour pork.... all were 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 the pork was amazing, so tasty!!! cocktails were also seriously good!! Would recommend!

I can not give enough praise and stars to reflect the amazing experience i had there with my fiance for my birthday recently. We had been told by others to get there early to get in the line (Great advise) because this place is hugely popular, and for a reason :D

With recommendations from our waitress, we ordered oysters, dumplings and duck pancakes to start with. The most mouth watering food I have ever tasted. Highly highly recommend the duck pancakes. For our main we had the lemon chicken with rice and steamed green veges.

A beautiful bottle of red that we enjoyed on the night, was very kindly and generously paid for by the table next to us, whom we got to know in the line then seated next to us and we continued our pleasant and warming conversation with them through out the night. This was without our knowledge until they had left, and I can't explain how humble I felt by the generosity and amazing service from the whole evening.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. The very best birthday I have ever had!!!

I have been to this restaurant countless time now and the food is fantastic, that is irrefutable, BUT it doesn't matter how good the food is because; when you go to a restaurant frequently and spend an excessive amount of money there per year, you expect good service. This time around , the service was absolutely appalling. It deserved the five minutes i wasted on writing a negative review. We ended up leaving the restaurant and not even eating. Unfortunately these guys are too busy and make too much money to really care about their customers. Will never go back. Luckily, Jade temple around the corner was accommodating!! And was a fantastic alternative.

Delicious Asian cuisine and funky laid back ambience. We had a great time at this restaurant. Delicious food, delicious cocktails, extensive wine list, friendly and efficient customer service. This restaurant is a feast for the senses. There is so much to enjoy not only the food and drinks but the eclectic funky way they have decorated this establishment, quite impressive.

So. Damn. Good. The meals were a little pricey, however were worth every cent (and then some). Steamed Dumplings, Duck Pancakes, King Crab Fried Rice, Pork Hock, Chocolate Mousse and Fried Ice Cream (of course). Can't fault anything. Service was also on point.
Meals: Arrived at the same time.
Plates: Removed at the same time.
Service: Quick, friendly and helpful.

User

This is a nice looking restaurant but is the food really anything special? I have been there 3 times and each time was left wondering if the meal I had just eaten was worth what was paid. If you are going to this place avoid the dumplings and head to a yum cha if dumplings is what you desire. The Peking duck and the crispy pork hock are quite nice. Crab meat fried rice also. But I still felt disappointed handing over the money though I am sure it's all about location location which bumps up the price.

User

Not the best choice for a middle-class, mixed race family, with dark skin. Fantastic atmosphere for affluent caucasians though. As we heard this place was crowded on Friday night, we arrived about 10 minutes after the doors opened to a short line of a handful of people. The restaurant at that point was only about 10% full. "How long do you plan on staying," was the first question the hostess asked us. Strange since she didn't ask any of the other people that. "I don't know, I guess until we're done eating," I replied. "Well, we need the table back as soon as possible" she said with a clenched smile. Then, a man in a suit and tie led us through the top floor of empty tables, downstairs through more empty tables all the way to the back corner of the room, one arm length from the service station and with a direct view of the dishwasher, who was busy clanging away with his task. There were a handful of white people at the good tables across the room. Our order was taken with a mask of forced civility cloaking an irritated disdain. As we ate, the room filled up and our corner became populated with the other undesirables not good enough for the visible areas. As we left, the restaurant was full and the visible areas stood out as conspicuously white with the brown people, the few that were there, lining the shadows. Mr. Wong leaves an unforgettable aftertaste.

User

Pretty damn awful! I am so confused about why this place has so many good reviews!? Yes it looks cool from the outside and is always busy but the food is terrible.

If you are Chinese or know real Chinese food, then avoid this place, as the quality is actually appalling and there is nothing authentic about it.

We had duck spring rolls which were about 15cm long and full of really bad quality tasteless duck and a piece of soft cucumber.

Then the "steamed fish with ginger" arrived. No trace of ginger and sadly it was nothing but 3 cubes of the frozen blocks of fish you can buy for a few dollars in the supermarket. Really shocked.

In terms of the atmosphere, they don't take reservations for groups of less than 6 and you have to go and put your name down on a list and then come back 2 hours or so later. As a result of this system, it's full of drunken rowdy people who have seemingly gone to a bar and gotten plastered in the meantime to kill some time.

Not Chinese at all. Mr Wong is long gone 👋🏼
