One of the many reasons we are such a successful multicultural society is because we can speak so many different languages and dialects, 273 in fact, which allows us to connect with people all over the globe! What is your favourite language?

There are many different ancestries represented in NSW and one of them is Polish. Did you know that the scientist and explorer Sir Paul Edmund de Strzelecki, did lots of exploration in Australia? In 1840, he discovered and climbed Mount Kosciuszko, which happens to be named after the famous 18th century Polish hero Tadeusz Kosciuszko.
Did you know? • In 2016 there were 52,551 people in New South Wales with Polish ancestry. • There was a 9.1% increase in the number of people ...with Polish ancestry since 2011 (from 48,164). • 4 % of people with Polish ancestry were born overseas and arrived between 2011 and August 2016. •There were fewer men with Polish ancestry (24,723) than women (27,829). •16.3% of the population with Polish ancestry were children (under 19 years of age), 36.5% were young adults (aged 20 to 44 years), and 47.2% were older adults (aged 45 years and over).

“Multiculturalism means a lot to me because of my mum. She loves her culture and when I was younger it played such an important role. On most weekends we’d go to my grandmother’s house and they’d have heaps of people come over and have big dinners. It was important that people embraced that and learned about that side of my family’s culture.” - Nick Shipley plays for the GWS Giants and is this week’s #itsmystory
