I love the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia and it's a place I visit all the time.

I meet lots of clients there, love the cafe and even today have become a paid member of theirs.

I love the art they have on display and the staff there are really nice. They are very good with me and go the extra mile.

LOVE IT and highly recommended!

Beautiful place with lots of room to walk around. Lots of creative arts and crafts for all ages. One of the best place in the heart of Sydney in the Rocks. Central and close to the historical part of Sydney. Only downer is the cafe. Million dollar view but the offering very bland. Price for what you get can't be justified. Overall good place to take the kids.

It's free. It's very boring for the average joe and his family. I'd only go to tick it off my tourist list and because my Grandma enjoys art. It's mostly post-modern abstract art, which requires an acquired taste to appreciate. The terrace on the top floor has an average cafe, with some decent views of the Sydney Harbour.

Treat your palette with MCA Cafe & Sculpture Terrace’s Chinese menu, inspired by Sun Xun’s current exhibition. Sip on a fragrant broth with poached chicken and treat yourself to mouth-watering staples from the region where the artist was raised.

In a time of competing voices and ideas, how do we find the truth? Cut through the fake news and separate fact from fiction at Conversation Starters: Truth or Dare on the weekend of 8–9 September. We’re back with a series of programs, talks and questions to get the conversation flowing. It’s time to get a bit uncomfortable – see the full program below.

‘Sun Xun could not afford a camera as a student, so he began to narrate stories by making hundreds of woodblock prints, which he would then use to create distinctive, labour-intensive animations.’ Our friends at @Ocula sat down with artist Sun Xun and discussed parallel worlds, art processes and new feature length films. Read on for the full interview before checking his work out in our Level 1 Galleries.

Introducing ‘United Neytions’ 📢 Kamilaroi artist Archie Moore’s striking installation of 28 flags has just been launched at Sydney Airport as part of our landmark partnership. This powerful work speaks to the diversity of Aboriginal cultures and draws attention to the local Indigenous people, on whose traditional land the airport lies.

‘Mimih spirits only live in the rock country, staying there always. When the wind picks up they run inside the rocks to hide, as their necks would break in the wind and they would die.’ — #JohnMawurndjul. Find these mischievous spirits in our galleries now as part of ‘John Mawurndjul: I am the old and the new’.

‘It's talking about two lores, two cultures and the fact we are all gathered on the same ground.’ — #MCACollection artist Judy Watson. We can’t wait to see Watson’s towering six-metre sculpture emerge on Tarpeian Lawn above Dubbagullee (Bennelong Point) in 2020. Commissioned by City of Sydney, ‘bara’ will be modelled on the bone fish hooks that have been made by Gadigal women for thousands of years.

Our exhibiting artist Sun Xun likens making animated films to piloting a spaceship. But unlike most pilots who'd avoid black holes, he aims to steer right into them. Discover what's there when we screen 10 of his films on Wed 15 Aug. Buy tickets now at http://bit.ly/2KAnDdP

‘I’ve made costumes and fashion pieces from festival wristbands, foam, zip-lock bags, fabric scraps and tweezer packets.’ Sydney-based designer Jeff McCann turns trash into treasure with his bespoke cardboard jewellery. Read more about his process on Stories & Ideas and pick yourself up a gem at the MCA Store 💎

Packed full of symbolic imagery, Sun Xun’s ‘21 Grams’ is comprised of a series of black-and-white pastel drawings that took over three years to complete. The artist drew the work title from American doctor Duncan MacDougall’s writings, which argue that the human body weighs 21 grams less immediately after death, and attribute this loss to the weight of the soul leaving the body. Take a seat and watch the work in the Level One Galleries, now open.

Moya McKenna typically creates one work in a single day. Her dream-like painting, 'Dialogue at the wall', sees objects bathed in light and warmth as the artist reconfigures everyday items into a strange and surreal arrangement. Now showing in ‘MCA Collection: Today, Tomorrow, Yesterday’.
