Nepean River Sup School Description
The Nepean River SUP School story begins after my sisters brought me, my brother-in-laws and our kids an hour board hire on the central coast, it was not an instructional course like we now offer, just hire, so it taught me nothing about stand up paddling other than ”there’s a board, now stand like this and paddle”. However I was hooked.
After returning home to Penrith where this sport is virtually unknown, I jumped on the internet and made the mistake of buying the cheapest board I could find, $700 later the board arrived, I unpacked it, stood on it in my swimming pool and realized I had bought a board that was too small for me and the paddle was useless, but I persevered.
Spending many more hours training to develop my paddling skill and knowledge of the local water ways, I am now a Stand Up Paddle Instructor with ASI Australian Surf Instructors, and have registered with ASI and the Penrith Council to bring the Nepean River SUP School to Western Sydney and to help others taking up this growing sport avoid the same mistakes I have made.
