New England Volunteer Air Transport Description

NEVAT was created in March 2006. NEVAT flies non emergency patients to their various medical appointments in Tamworth, Armidale and Toowoomba. We currently fly from airstrips at Ashford, Inverell, Glen Innes, Warialda and Texas.

NEVAT’s air transport service is provided free of charge to our members.

Membership fees for twelve month are as follow
$50 single
$75 couple
$90 family up to five members

There is a once only joining fee of $5. 00 per person.

People who are receiving treatment for Chemotherapy, Renal or Burns need not become members however to use the service they must register with us.

While NEVAT tries to fly every requested mission we are occasionally subjected to bad weather or maintenance issues. For these reasons we ask everyone to have a back up plan. The back up plan can be as simple as contacting your doctor and rescheduling the appointment time, however in most cases people organize a ground transport back up. Since commencing flights in September 2007 we have only had 6 flights called off due to weather.

Since beginning flights in September 2007 we have flown 233 missions and carried 396 passengers to their various non emergency medical appointments.

No one at NEVAT gets paid, we are all volunteers including ground staff and pilots. Every dollar we raise goes directly into providing the service. We are in fact Australia’s only 100% Volunteer Air Transport Service.

Donations to the service can be made either to The Secretary, 35 Albury Street Ashford, any branch of The New England Credit Union, through Thea Batterham or 2NZ / GEM FM in Byron Street Inverell.

When a member requires the use of our service they simply contact NEVAT at the NEVAT Cafe and check that the aircraft is available on the day they require it.

Bookings are taken on a first in basis, however as we operate a four seat aircraft we can occasionally have more than one passenger to the same destination on the same flight.

Every passenger must be able to enter and exit the aircraft and seat belts must be worn at all times.

NEVAT has carried every age passenger, the youngest being unborn and currently the eldest was 93.
Some of the treatments we have carried passengers to include Heart, Chemotherapy, Sports Injury, Eye and various other Cancers.

NEVAT can be contacted by phone at NEVAT Cafe on 6725 4448.
