Newcastle City Farmers Market Description

Newcastle City Farmers and Makers Market brings together local farmers and producers just like markets of days gone by.
Started 20 years ago in a field in Morpeth, the market quickly grew to be known as the Fine Food Market when it moved to Honeysuckle and then to it's home ground at the Newcastle Showground.

You get to chat to the farmer, find out where your food is made, how to cook it and even taste test while you shop in the pavilions and around the village green atmosphere of the showground.

Along with food you will find artisan and designer stalls selling the Hunter's best range of quality goods, from clothing made from vintage material to blacksmiths, jewellery makers and painters.
The Farmers Market also has cooking shows with ingredients sourced from our own farmers and producers. Everything you need to feed, clothe or surprise your family can be bought at the Newcastle City Farmers and Craft Market and you know it's all been made with care.

Newcastle City Farmers and Makers Market is now on most Sundays, regardless of the weather, at the Newcastle Showground, Broadmeadow.

HEAD TO THE STADIUM! We're open and there's loads of farm-fresh produce and gourmet treats.

Tomorrow, Sunday, we will be at the Stadium - also known as McDonald Jones Stadium, Knights or Jets home ground and if you're as old as me, the International Sports Centre.
Yes we are moving for the day but all your favourite farmers and producers will be there - they'll just be set up in a different order so take your time strolling through the market to find your favourites. It's also an opportunity to discover new stalls you walk past and miss at the Showground.
There wil...l be fresh seafood, prawns, oysters and smoked salmon. There will be loads of heritage chooks, ducks, lamb, beef, pork and smoked and cured meats.
The farmers have been busy in the paddocks harvesting so the tables will be groaning with greens and we'll also have Hunter Valley milk at Over The Moon Milk. Gates will be open from 7am to 1pm and don't forget those bags and shopping lists.

THIS Sunday we will be at the Showground from 7am to 1pm.
But don't forget this Saturday, August 11, is our twice monthly Lake Macquarie City Farmers Market and this Saturday's market is special as we will be sharing the park with Shane from Fill a Truck For Farmers who will be collecting tinned goods, tools, farm equipment, water, etc to truck out to drought areas.
Shane is looking for more than just tinned food and cash donations, but also bags of dog food, long life milk, ...dried goods like pasta and rice, personal care items like shampoo and conditioners, toilet paper and bottled water.
Prepaid EFTPOS cards are also a great idea so that the farming families can buy exactly what they need and also support their local stores in these drought stricken regions.
The drought has been going on for about seven years now, but it's reached crisis point for many farmers, so have a look and see what you can do to help.
We passed the bucket around at last Sunday's Newcastle City Farmers Market and our farmers, producers and customers have a donation of $1,300 to add to Shane's collection. Farmers helping farmers - how good is that.
