About North Sydney Aikido

You too can learn Aikido, the thinking person's martial art

Aikido is 'the martial art of peace'. The Aikidoka is known as the peaceful warrior.

North Sydney Aikido Description

The North Sydney Aikido attracts men and women who seek an effective and modern martial art like aikido.

Aikido specialises in blending with energy, the momentum or the force. The Aikidoka (Practitioner of Aikido) spends a lot of training hours mastering and perfecting awase (blending).

As part of the North Sydney Police Citizen Youth Club (PCYC), North Sydney Aikido enjoys a community environment which provides a safe and comfortable environment to train for women, men and children.

Most students come here to build confidence, improve their fitness, improve their flexibility and coordination and calm their mind after a hard day's work.

Self-discipline, strong focus, a peaceful philosophy and an assertive energy and confidence is an internal effect caused by practising Aikido.

A lot of Iwama Aikido practitioners in Sydney started their Aikido journey here at North Sydney Aikido.

North Sydney Dojo has been located at the North Sydney Police and Community Youth Club for the last 27 years.

North Sydney Aikido is the original Takemusu Aiki Dojo (Iwama Aikido) in Sydney and the place where Saburo Takayasu Sensei first taught Iwama Aikido. The Lineage comes from Morihei Ueshiba OSensei and Saito Sensei of Iwama Aikido Japan. After a number of years, responsibility for North Sydney Aikido was passed to Michael Marelli Sensei. Mic Sensei continued the tradition of Iwama Style Aikido and created a strong Aikido Community in Sydney's North Shore.

In early 2000, Roger Gibson Sensei and Mark Wilson Sensei continued the tradition of teaching Iwama Aikido in North Sydney.

Today Roger Sensei and the new generation of instructors and students continue the proud tradition that is North Sydney Aikido.

May Peace Prevail on Earth.
