About Northwest United Physie & Dance

Northwest United Physie & Dance is part of the APDA (Australian Physie and Dance Association) the new revolution of dance.

Northwest United Physie & Dance Description

Northwest United Physie and Dance is a part of the Australian Physie and Dance Association (APDA), a professional association which was established in 2012 to offer a new vision for Physie and dance.

Our classes are a fun and social way to enjoy fitness and make new friends.

All members are welcome to come and simply do classes or join in the Interclub, Zone and National competitions. Competitions are held annually at an individual and team level. The competitions are not mandatory but are very rewarding and promote good sportsmanship and club spirit.

Physie is fun. It’s social. It promotes fitness and a general sense of well-being, and self-worth. APDA embraces the opportunity for positive change. The creative team at APDA pride themselves in understanding the need to review and redefine this unique sport, and collectively they have designed a national curriculum that is energetic, edgy and always exciting for students.

The APDA syllabus incorporates modern dance, ballet, lyrical, stretch and strengthening exercises to support these movements. The syllabus underpins our Association’s vision to help students express their creativity through an innovative interpretation of movement and music. The syllabus will be reviewed annually to ensure that the Association’s high standards are continually met and maintained.

What is Physie?
Physie (pronounced 'fizzy'), is a dance sport for girls and women from 2 years up which aims to build confidence, good posture, strength, fitness and flexibility through exercise.

Uniquely Australian, the syllabus, updated annually, is performed to modern music and comprises standing and floor exercises, aerobic warm-ups, basic ballet, and modern dance.

Our choreography is age-appropriately designed to teach the relationship of music to movement, rhythm, co-ordination, balance, and musical interpretation.

Members are taught in suburban Physie schools (similar to any dance school) by trained teachers supplied to the club by our National organisation.

The Physie year culminates in a series of friendly competitions for both teams and individuals. These are not compulsory, but they do help to foster a club spirit, a sense of belonging, and club loyalty.

The National Junior and Ladies Finals are held at The Concourse, Chatswood. The prestigious National Senior Finals are held each November in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House.

Physie is a marvellous way to develop healthy minds and bodies whilst forming friendships that last a lifetime.
Most of all, Physie is a lot of fun!
