About Nsw Ses

NSW SES (New South Wales State Emergency Service) is the combat agency for floods, storms and tsunami in NSW.

Nsw Ses Description

The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is an emergency and rescue service dedicated to assisting the community. It is made up almost entirely of volunteers, with 241 units located throughout New South Wales. The units comprise of approximately 9, 000 volunteer members, who are easily identified by their distinctive orange overalls.

While our major responsibilities are for flood, storm and tsunami operations, the SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue, evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats. Volunteers in a number of isolated communities have been trained as Community First Responders by the Ambulance Service of New South Wales. The Service's trained rescuers also support the full-time emergency services during major disasters. The SES also assists other emergency services when they are performing major operations. These services include the NSW Police Force, the NSW Rural Fire Service, the Fire and Rescue NSW and the Ambulance Service of NSW.

Slow to 40 road rule starts tomorrow!
From tomorrow, motorists will be required by law to slow down to 40km/h when passing a stationary emergency vehicle displaying blue or red flashing lights.
The new rule also requires motorists to give way to any person on foot in the immediate area of the emergency vehicle.
... This rule will help to keep everyone safe, especially our emergency service responders.

Today is Wear It Purple Day.
A day where the simple act of wearing purple signifies support and recognition for young LGBTI/rainbow people.
Wear it Purple was founded in 2010 in response to young people taking their own lives as a result of bullying and harassment from the lack of acceptance of their sexuality or gender identity.
... In Hyde Park this morning, NSW SES Deputy Commissioner Fatima Abbas, joined staff, volunteers, and other emergency service personnel (including NSW Police Force) who proudly supported the WIP day event.
Whilst in NSW SES State Headquarters in Wollongong, the rainbow flag was raised by Commissioner Mark Smethurst who was joined by staff. It is believed to be the first time nationally that an emergency service has raised the Rainbow Flag to show support for the LGBTIQ community.

Short video of our new Cell on Wheels (CoW) that was launched this week by NSW SES Commissioner Mark Smethurst and NSW Telco Authority Managing Director, Kate Foy.
The 'CoW' is a successful collaboration between the two agencies to produce a tactical mobile communications capability that will allow communications to be established in areas where there is no coverage, or where infrastructure has been damaged in a natural disaster or critical incident.

Herd it through the bovine about the NSW SES CoW?
Today saw the launch of our new Cell on Wheels, fondly known as the 'CoW'.
The CoW is the newest addition to the State’s supply of mobile radio assets, and the latest product resulting from collaboration between experts in the field from the NSW Telco Authority and NSW State Emergency Service.
... Our CoW can be deployed in the field to provide radio communications for public safety agency frontline workers where there is no coverage from existing fixed infrastructure, or the existing infrastructure is damaged in the event of a natural disaster or critical incident.

With some welcome rain expected over the next couple of days, we will all be celebrating!
But while the sun has been shining, and the leaves have been falling, all those gutters and drains around the home have been filling up.
Time for some quick home maintenance, so you can sit back and enjoy the sound of rain on your roof and not the sight of water running down your walls.

Great to see the NSW SES Bush Search and Rescue Unit win the Volunteer Team of the Year award at the recent NSW Volunteer of the Year awards for the Outer Western Sydney and Blue Mountains region by The Centre for Volunteering
This team joined the NSW SES earlier in the year bringing with them invaluable experience in remote area search and rescue operations.
They have been called out to support our field teams on several missing person searches across the State where special...ist training and experience is required to operate in challenging environmental conditions.

Not sure why but people are being diverted at Parkes to condobolin but once you get to condo you can't get out. I have family traveling from brush to Griffith and they have been sent 4 hours in the wrong direction to have to turn around and go back the other way. You need to change your diversion at Parkes.
