About Nurragingy Reserve

The Nurragingy Reserve is an open urban park and nature reserve, complete with unique features including a native wildlife park, Chinese garden and conference centre for business meetings and varying functions located in Knox Rd, Doonside and Rooty Hill, New South Wales, Australia. HistoryThe name "Nurragingy" commemorates one of the two aborigines of the Dharruk tribe who received the first land grant to natives from Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1819. The other title holder was Colebee, whose name has been given to the Centre within the Reserve. A painting by local Aboriginal artist Danny Eastwood, depicting this land grant hangs inside the Colebee Centre. Prior to the 1970s the land was part of the Cumberland Timber Forest which was a supplier of commercial timber. In the 1970s the land was purchased by the New South Wales state government with the intention of turning it into a green belt for Western Sydney which was facing rapid expansion. In 1981 the state government allowed a portion of the land to be used as a recreational area. WildlifeThe surrounding vegetation contains a number a vulnerable and regionally specific species such as Shale-Gravel Transition Forest, Alluvial Woodland and Shale Plain Woodland as a part of a Grey Box and Forest Red Gum woodland. Cabbage Gum's, Casuarina glauca and Melaeuca spp. are present in the creeks and ponds. The shrub layer includes Bursaria spinosa, Acacia decurrens and Dillwynia juniperina. The reserve is home to many herbs and grasses as well as wetland species around the creek and streambanks.

Would have given it 5 stars but this world isn't perfect yet. But the effort gone into the park is really nice. Nice relaxing feel.

Lots of parking and picnic spots. Some get dirty over weekend use though. great spots for photography. Chinese garden is a delight.

Great area for picnics, has facilities for BBQ and a water park area which is great for summer. The bridge, pond and chinese garden area are lovely and great for photos - we had engagement photos taken here.
The Medieval Fayre is held here every year which is a great fun too!

Quite a dense and natural bushland, which is a great destination to go for a relaxing day out at the park, full of different picnic areas, playgrounds, a Chinese garden overlooking the lake, and special events occurring a few times each year.

Honestly, what a beautiful little gem of a place in the city of Blacktown. I've lived here for years and didn't realise that Narragingy was so beautiful! So lucky to live just a few minutes drive from this place. Absolutely loved going for a walk around the Chinese Garden.
