A report into the alleged abuse of a patient at a Melbourne hospital has reportedly found money is urgently needed for staff development. Hidden-camera footage revealed a male nurse at Caulfield Hospital grabbing cerebral palsy sufferer Billy Aivaliotis by the throat on January 22. The family of Aivaliotis placed the camera in his room months after he arrived as they were worried about his weight loss and unexplained repeated bruises, as he was unable to say what had happened to him. The federal government is introducing a new system to allow private health insurance consumers see exactly what their policies cover "on a single page". Health Minister Greg Hunt on Sunday unveiled the minimum hospital treatments covered by the new policy bands – Gold, Silver, Bronze and Basic – due to come in next April. Hunt said the system will not lead to a change in prices for procedures, but allows consumers to easily see what their policies pay for. Health practitioners accused of sexual exploitation or drug offences could be reported to Victoria Police by their industry regulator, under a new agreement between the two organisations. The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and police have reached a first-of-its-kind memorandum of understanding, which creates procedures for timely and appropriate information-sharing when either agency discovers certain information during investigations. The agency will be able to pass on details of suspected crimes including physical harm, sexual offending, production of exploitative material and drug offences. The US opposed a World Health Assembly resolution to encourage breastfeeding because it called for limits on the promotion of infant formula, not because of objections to breastfeeding, President Donald Trump says in a tweet. Trump criticised The New York Times for reporting that US officials sought to remove language that urged governments to protect, promote and support breastfeeding, along with language calling on policymakers to limit the promotion of food products, such as infant formula, that can be harmful to young children. Advice to new parents on positioning babies is not good enough to prevent pressure on the skull which can cause facial distortion, research shows. Plagiocephal- or flat-headedness is a condition most common in babies with less developed head control, a University of Melbourne study has found. Physiotherapist Liz Williams said on Tuesday current advice for parents to give babies plenty of tummy time and alternate on which side their heads rest does not go far enough.
