What does auto care have to do with birds? Everything now 😁
Goodyear Autocare Merimbula have always supported us since we opened, and are now official gold sponsors of the bird park. The contributions from gold sponsors goes directly into supporting our breeding programs and staff development through training.
So when you need anything to do with your car, bike, caravan or trailer, see Goodyear Autocare Merimbula! Kristie, Andrew and the team will get you ‘good to go’!
... Support local business that supports locals! Thank you Goodyear Autocare Merimbula.

Are you a budding young bird keeper under 18? On the Perch Bird Park in conjunction with the The Finch Society of Australia Inc. and the The Queensland Finch Society www.qfs.org.au would like to support your interest in the hobby even if you haven't started yet! If you live on the south coast, southern highlands, south-west slopes or Riverina regions of NSW or the ACT, On the Perch Bird Park has a small number of easy to keep finches available free of charge to two young bird... keepers (u17). Those two bird keepers will be supported with a yearly Junior membership to the Finch Society of Australia, a great finch keepers handbook from The Queensland Finch Society www.qfs.org.au and the ability to directly contact Zookeeper Steve who is willing to provide advice and mentorship! As we have limited this to two young people, please send On the Perch Bird Park a fb message telling us about your interest. Have your message to us by 15 September and we will announce the two lucky bird keepers on 30 September 2018.

This spooky fellow is a Metallic Starling, named for the oil slick metallic sheen on the feathers around their neck. They are native to New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and northern Queensland. Thanks to Kate Unsworth for the awesome photo.
Can you name the bird that is photobombing on the right? Tell us in the comments which species this is! #tathra #tathrastrong #sapphirecoast #visittathra
This is our Conservation Precinct which is now under construction. Our next task after pole installation is landscaping. Yes it’s seems a little backward, but while the poles are setting hard with the rammed earth design, the plants can get a head start! Just means we have to build around them! #sapphirecoast #visittathra #tathrastrong #tathra
It’s National Threatened Species Day On Friday 7th September. Come along to our special Meet the Keeper sessions, or just stop in for coffee and cake for just $8. The choice is yours!

Threatened Species Day is Friday 7th September. It’s marks the day that the last Thylacine passed away in Hobart Zoo in 1936. While it’s a day to reflect on the past, it’s also important to promote what can be done in the present and in the future to save our species. Our 11am and 1pm Meet the Keeper talks will focus on the 19 threatened species that call On the Perch home from the vulnerable to extinction to critically endangered. Learn what you can do in your backyard, on your farm or in your town, to help threatened biodiversity. Why not treat yourself to coffee and cake while your here for only $8 or a scone with jam and cream is just $3 (order one, two, three or more!). Normal entry fees apply to the bird park.
Our deepest sympathy to Sally and the team at Mogo Zoo on the sudden loss of ‘Kibabu’, aged 41. RIP big fella. #mogozoo #kibabu

Mark your calendars, we will be open again from this Saturday 1st September! Come in and feed the birds this weekend, the birds have missed you! Thank you to Lucy Mackintosh for the great photo. #sapphirecoast #tathrastrong #visittathra #tathra
We love Tawny frogmouths 😁😁
Spring is in the air! The family group of White-winged coughs are now building a nest in the Aussie Icons aviary. A cooperative breeder, they build a nest that is made of mud and grass. They are absolutely fascinating to watch 😊#sapphirecoast #visittathra #tathrastrong #tathra Sapphire Coast NSW Tathra & Surrounds
Whooo’s egg-cited? It’s only 7 more sleeps until we reopen after our little break! In the meantime, check out this great interview with Linda and Steve, the owners and creators of this amazing place!

2yo really enjoyed seeing the birds and feeding them mealworms from his hand. They did a great babycino and had a baby change table available. Very child friendly!
