About One Hit Wonder Down Under

The Toyota One Hit Wonder Big Air is the Southern Hemisphere's only AFP World Tour gold ranked event that brings the worlds best down under.

One Hit Wonder Down Under Description

In 2009 the One Hit Wonder Down Under was the first Big Air event of its kind with the winners decided by the public via an online vote. An athlete built and driven event with a big jump feature designed by freeskier Tim Myers and a group of Aussie skiers and boarders who wanted nothing more than to see how far they could progress the level of riding in Australia.

In 2010 the Toyota One Hit Wonder Down Under became the richest event in Australian snowsports.

By 2011 the biggest jump in the Southern Hemisphere had grown some more and was enjoying a global reputation as one of the best in the world, attracting some of the biggest overseas names in freeskiing to compete alongside fierce local athletes who were eager to prove that they could hold their own on an international stage.

In 2012 the Toyota One Hit Wonder became the first ever Australian snowsports event to be santioned by the AFP (Association of Freeskiing Professionals) and included on the AFP World Tour calander as the Southern Hemisphere's first Gold level Big Air.

In keeping with the theme of progression, 2013 saw the Toyota One Hit Wonder Big Air return to Thredbo as a part of the Efterski Festival. Presented by One Hit Wonder and Rekorderlig Cider, this all-encompassing week of action snow sports, film, as well as live local and big name international music acts will be the biggest festival above the snowline. Featuring a weeks worth of on-the-mountain Australian first's, including the Atomic Alpine Knockout dual giant slalom, the Rhythm Slush Cup pond skim, the Contour Rookie Film competition, movie premieres plus a village full of party goers to witness the likes of Australian duo Hermitude and international superstar Kele (Bloc Party DJ).

2014 onwards will showcase a brand new "Game Show" format that presents skiers with 5 rounds to navigate. The winning skier after each round will be tempted with cash to walk away from the competition then and there, taking a chunk of the overall $10k purse, or invited to double or nothing his winnings into the next round and eventually reach the finals where it’s “winner takes all” (or at least what’s left of the prize pot).

"Basically we've taken an elite competition and turned it into a melting pot of death stares, peer pressure and mind games among the world’s best big air athletes. It should make for some great spectating. . . "

2015 will continue to push the bounds of action snow sports at the top of Thredbo, all the while capturing the insanity at 1000 frames per second to display to an audience much further a field than those who turn up on the day.
