Osteopaths are allied health professionals that offer patient-centred approaches to healthcare and functional improvement which recognise the important link between the structure of the body and the way it functions. Osteopaths focus on how the skeleton, joints, muscles, nerves, circulation, connective tissue and internal organs function as a holistic unit.

Stark naked and painted in bright colours, hundreds of Melburnians (including an osteopath) braved the cold to pose for Spencer Tunick in the first of two nude shoots during the week.
... The US artist snapped 500 nudes in frosty conditions in a Windsor laneway on Sunday afternoon as part of the Provocare Festival of the Arts.
Each participant was covered from head to toe in coloured body paint before posing in the graffiti-filled Artists Lane.

When a patient doesn't do their rehab exercises....
Rule of π: Always follow your osteo's advice! π
Exercise based rehabilitation is a unique focus in osteopathy! It uses movement and movement instruction, often with minimal hands on manual therapy, specifically to enhance physical capacity or movement in patients who:
... - Have sustained an injury - Have undergone recent surgery - Have a chronic illness or injury - Are seeking recovery and improvement to their general health and wellbeing - Have experienced loss of normal functional ability.
Exercise rehabilitative practice is patient-centred and empowering. An exercise rehabilitative osteopath will involve you in developing an exercise program that meets your assessed needs and assists in building your physical and mental resilience.
NOTE: there are no specialisations within osteopathy. However, many osteopaths choose to work with a specific patient group or groups and undertake further study and/or training to support their clinical focus.

One million Australians have an eating disorder. These serious mental health disorders have complex physical and psychological effects. All health professionals have a role to play in early identification and response to eating disorders, to support the best possible outcomes for their clients and patients.
This webinar presented by Hilary Smith, from The National Eating Disorders Collaboration (NEDC), will give osteopaths the key information that they need to be able to iden...tify and respond to eating disorders within their role and responsibility as an allied healthcare practitioner.

Not the drink of champions.
Alcohol ingestion after sport and exercise worsens all major aspects of post-exercise recovery. Alcohol slows down the repair process of exercise-induced muscle damage by inhibiting the functions of hormones that usually aid this process (such as testosterone).
For athletes with a soft tissue injury, itβs even worse, as alcohol opens up the blood vessels and encourages swelling at the injury site.

Lower back pain is one of the most common complaints seen by a GP or healthcare professional. It is estimated that over 80% of Australians will experience lower back pain at some point in their lives. Lower back pain may be acute (new pain) or chronic (longstanding pain), and it can range from mild and annoying to severe and debilitating.
Osteopaths are health professionals who are highly trained to treat lower back pain.
An osteopath will explain to you why your pain is pre...sent, assist to relieve it with manual therapy and identify any barriers to your recovery. During a consultation with an osteopath, your practitioner will first discuss your case and thoroughly assess your condition.

Cannabis' medical benefits for chronic pain have suffered a blow, with a major study finding it may not provide the pain relief hoped for in chronic pain, while increasing levels of anxiety. The article does also acknowledge other areas where studies show cannabis is of benefit.
The study (which admittedly has some quality flaws) found cannabis does not cut pain, nor does it help some sufferers replace opioids.
