When the mid-afternoon dip kicks in..
The Sydney Harbour Bridge has a copy-cousin in New York City 😮
I was there today, upstairs, mid afternoon and few patrons. I sat in front of the bar, ordered and paid for food. Forty-odd minutes later, order number sitting high on the table and still no food to be seen. When I enquired, they said that the order had not been sent to the kitchen. Hungry and frustrated and asked for a cash refund and I left, and likely will not return. No idea of proactive service, and no service at all from people allegedly in the food and beverage service industry.
Best cafe in town. Like walking back in time. Check out back of cafe ...amazing.
The Paragon for me is all about nostalgia. I visit once every year and have done for almost 25 years. It's warm, cosy and authentic. I had waffles which were heavenly and even my fussy teens found something to enjoy. Everyone visiting Katoomba show give it a go.
Thought staff a little odd at the start but they turned out wonderful. Great food great history. But the joinery needs attention after all this time
I'm a history nut so I was very excited to stumble on this place. Staff were super friendly and invited us to explore the historic premises while it was quiet. The 1930s ballroom and banquet room are in beautiful condition. The look and feel of the café is classical, with lots of dark wood, glass ornaments, and cosy booths. They have kept the original recipes and packaging for a lot of their products. Love that they're keeping a bit of the original Katoomba alive.
The decor and nostalgia are outstanding, the service is one of the worst ever. The rudest boy who i suspect was in charge of the front of shop was so revolting we left without ordering anything ...
very good food and lovely staff. they have wide range of chocolates for sale too. enjoyed our food here.
Friendly staff in a heritage listed restaurant. If you enjoy a bit of nostalgia, the 1920s milk bar setting harks to an era where dining out had just started being a trend.. looking forward to the next 100 years of service for this iconic institution
Fantastic hand made chocolates. A great hot chocolate. A delicious meal of waffles, berries, ice cream and cream. For my 70th birthday. First visited there 50 years ago and had a personal tour, with the owner, of the artdeco function room in the rear which must not be missed.
Lovely staff, great hot chocolate and scones. I know it is an amazing historical place but I think a bit of a tidy up and organise wouldn't go astray.
Cool old fashioned cafe with a shop that sells old fashioned toys and chocolate. Cafe has great selection of sweets, cake and drinks. They have cute little booths and staff are efficient and friendly.
This place has been here forever; however, it doesn't really pay to be rude to visitors, whether you think they'll come back or not.
The food is nice, the setting is great, but throwing dishes onto the table, ignoring people and telling them it's 'not their turn to order' doesn't win friends. We watched one group walk out, rather than stay, after some rather impolite service.
On the food front, for a place that makes its own chocolate, it's inexplicable for the hot chocolate drink to be made from powdered chocolate. And the cream with the scones isn't really much good - thin whipped cream.
Overall, given there are so many places to eat in Katoomba, walk in have a look at the decor and go somewhere else.
Sorry Paragon
