Penrith Symphony Orchestra Description
Penrith Symphony Orchestra (PSO) is one of Australia's leading pro-am orchestras, comprising professional and semi-professional musicians, tertiary music students and gifted amateur players.
As the Orchestra of Western Sydney, PSO plays a major role in the cultural life of Australia's fastest-growing region.
It presents an annual season of concert and operatic performances at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre ("The Joan") in Penrith, where it is the centre's longest-standing user and is currently Orchestra-in-Residence.
Penrith Symphony Orchestra provides audiences in Penrith, the Blue Mountains, the Hawkesbury and surrounding areas with accessible and affordable, high-quality performances of wide-ranging orchestral, oratorio and operatic repertoire.
The orchestra works with professional conductors and soloists of national and international reputation, as well as emerging artists.
It is run by a board whose elected members include community player representatives committed to the promotion and enjoyment of orchestral music in Sydney's west.
