About People Of Coffee Ngo

People Of Coffee is an autonomous decentralised organisation, which ensures that everybody in the coffee supply chain – from the growers on the ground, to the retail outlets selling the coffee – has a say in how the supply chain should be managed, to meet their needs. This is a completely different approach to the way things work now with existing certification schemes, which have largely been created without the active participation of the people on the ground – the growers and workers in developing countries. We want equality through the value chain so that everybody gets to share in the benefits of producing, processing and selling coffee – this is genuine sustainable development. We are creating a new way of doing business based on quality of life, not quantity of product. All people have a right be paid properly, to grow and enjoy coffee free of chemicals, and give the planet a future, nothing less. Our mission is to reduce costs throughout the coffee supply chain by removing unfair economic burdens whilst delivering a proactive approach to sustainable development, poverty alleviation and climate change. We believe that ethical trade is not about profit maximisation through squeezing farmers and processors, but fair competition in global markets for sustainable coffee, and access to credible and affordable management systems for coffee production. Traditional institutional structures have proven to be ineffective as seen by the increase in poverty of farmers globally. They have been unable to effectively tackle the major issues of unsustainable development, poverty, and climate change – or simply ignored these problems all together. People Of Coffee is using a quality of governance approach, based on institutional integrity and regulatory frameworks to deliver legitimacy of product creation, distribution and profit sharing, in multiple contexts, sectors and jurisdictions. We are opening up a new distributed model of coffee trade, in the service of all people of coffee. amelia@peopleofcoffee.orgfacebook: @peopleofcoffee.orginstagram: people. of. coffee
