The academy teaches a practical, non-competitive self-defence style of martial art to people of all ages with an emphasis on defence. The techniques taught use an attacker's strength to a defender's advantage.

Soke Peter Morton started the Peter Morton Academy of Judo Jujitsu Karate in 1962 at Queanbeyan, NSW. Since its inception it has operated as a not-for-profit organisation and now has branches across the ACT, NSW, QLD, SA and WA.

The academy teaches a practical, non-competitive self-defence style of martial art to people of all ages. Its emphasis is on defence with the techniques taught utilising an attacker's strength and size against them. These defensive strategies aim to initially evade, disable and finally immobilise an attacker.

As the academy's style favour's technique over strength, it is suitable for children and adults, females and males, as well as the young and old. It should appeal to anyone who wishes to learn a practical self-defence, not those wishing to pursue competition.

The main basis of the academy's syllabus is techniques and teachings of Jishukan Ryu Jujitsu (founded by Shuho Sugita 1947), Judo (founded by Jigoro Kano 1882), and Kempo Karate. With boxing and grappling being introduced in the senior syllabus.

Classes are conducted in a semi-formal environment. The aim is for students to enjoy themselves while improving personal skills such as coordination, reflexes, physical fitness, self control and self esteem.
