Roughly 6,000,000 tonnes of debris enters the world's oceans every year, weighing about the same as 1,000,000 elephants...
Every year around the world, plastic kills 100,000 turtles and marine mammals, such as dolphins, whales and seals, as well as 1,000,000 seabirds.
Plastic pollution is a huge problem and whilst mass media awareness is rising, it's down to individuals and communities to make changes.
... Join the PCFML Team and help clean-up your local parks and beaches. Just an hour of your time can really make an impact!
We are proud to be working alongside NSW EPA's Waste Less Recycle More initiative, to help reduce litter and marine debris through increasing public awareness and engagement.

Our next two Gold Coast beach clean events will be in Burleigh Heads at Justin's Park. We'll set up directly across from the Burleigh Pub near viewing platform and the public toilets. See you tomorrow!
Approximately 6 million tonnes of rubbish enter our ocean every year, with disasterous effects on marine ecosystems. Turtles, seabirds, whales, dolphins, seals, fish and other marine life mistake photo-degraded plastics for phytoplankton, jellyfish and other sources of food, o...ften leading to starvation and poisoning that then gets passed on to their offspring. Marine debris is something that each and every one of us can change - by changing the way we consume and the products we choose to buy we ARE the change that the ocean so desperately needs.
We have been holding fortnightly beach clean up surveys since 2012, with our next clean up happening this Saturday at Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast. Why not come down and join us on August 25, meet new people and help to make a real difference by removing pollution from our local beach.
We will meet at 8:30 am at Justin’s Park. Share with your friends, family and networks, and together we can help create cleaner and healthier oceans!
So far, Positive Change for Marine Life has collected over 400,000 pieces of trash from Byron beaches alone and kept it from entering the ocean. We CAN reverse the trend of marine debris, through changing how we consume and working together for a healthier ocean.

Another perfect morning #RiverWarriors

Over the past 3 months our River Warriors team collected 774kg of rubbish from the Tallebudgera Creek on the Gold Coast. The majority of these items were plastic bags, bottles, polystyrene nurdles and pieces, as well as cigarette butts and discarded fishing gear. Our haul was made up of an astounding 15,436 items!
It's devastating to see otherwise pristine, estuaries being choked by human waste. Our surveys are kayak-based and we run weekly transects to cover the length of th...e creek from estuary mouth to source once per week, covering the entirety over the course of a month.
We all need to act on marine debris, the products that you choose to use and the way that you dispose of your waste makes an enormous difference! Say no to single-use, reuse, recycle and pick up trash when you see it. We will be continuing our surveys over the coming 4 months on Tallebudgera Creek and then opening them up to the public in November. We are also launching our new River Warriors projects on Tingalpa Creek in Redlands and Terranora Creek in Tweed Heads very shortly, stay tuned!
This project is proudly supported by the Queensland Government's Community Sustainability Action Program.

The inside scoop from last week's Litter Congress was that Newtecpoly Pty Ltd are bringing a game-changer into the recycled plastics industry with the ability to now transform cigarette butts (the #1 litter item in Australia) into a usable (&re-usable) plastic!!
Maybe when smokers sit on a park bench made up of tens of thousands of littered cigarettes they will learn to dispose of their butts better πŸ€”
