Today was a beautiful day for a round of golf at Avondale Golf Club, and players took full advantage of the opportunity to spend 18 holes with old friends, and new, to help raise funds for our Indigenous Scholarship Program. As the debating season draws to a close, our Language Arts community took the time to celebrate the achievements of our Year 12 debaters, who will be leaving us next week. The girls enjoyed reminiscing about a successful year of debating and public speaking and said their fond farewells during a casual lunch on Marden Lawn. Well done to our legal eagles in Year 11 who argued their case convincingly in a fabricated crime scenario, as part of the Youth Justice Program run by The Law Society of NSW. Our girls competed in teams that were awarded first and second place and were praised by the Honourable Terry Buddin SC for their rationale in determining an appropriate sentence. Deep in thought as they worked their way through complex mathematical problems, our Middle School students, Angie and Serena, sat the Australian Intermediate Mathematics Olympiad recently. Both girls tackled the challenging and difficult questions in the four-hour competition with gusto and thoroughly enjoyed their experience. Congratulations to all our divers who competed last week in the School Sport Australia Diving Championships in Perth. Our girls achieved outstanding scores from day one, which set the tone for the rest of the week. We are very proud of Team Pymble for their wonderful results, sportsmanship, dedication and comradery. We love a bit of drama at Pymble and our Year 10 Drama Curriculum Showcase did not disappoint! Our girls treated audiences to two performances of AR Gurney’s The Dining Room, an entertaining comedy set in a single dining room and intertwining different households. Our Year 10 dramatists can take a well-deserved bow for rising to the challenge of creating two nights of compelling live theatre, replete with hilarious and heartfelt moments and wonderful characterisation. Watch this space! This week a group of our secondary school girls were striving for the highest at the University of Sydney’s Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies where they participated in the Zero Robotics coding competition. The competition challenges participants to test their coding skills on NASA robots known as SPHERES (Synchronised, Position, Hold, Engage, Reorient Experimental Satellites) and the winners will receive the once-in-a-lifetime prize of running their code on the SPHERE robots at the International Space Station. Our Kindergarten girls are getting a thorough education in responsible animal care this week, with the ducklings departing to return to the farm and a visit from Pet Educator Yvonne and Brax. Our girls learnt that it might not be a good idea to 'put a sticker on a doggie just to make him look nicer' but to approach unknown dogs with care after first asking permission. The girls also enjoyed learning how to carefully and gently pat Brax who relished in all the attention. #pymblelc #pymblepreparatoryschool #greetadog
