Reflexology Direct Description

There are many benefits with the use of reflexology. The most profound effect is the relaxation and a sense of well-being. It promotes increased blood flow and lymphatic drainage, as well as nerve stimulation and elimination of wastes. Pain associated with stress and tension is dramatically reduced.

Reflexology helps balance body functioning in a safe and non-intrusive way. It is effectively used in conjunction with other therapies and complements appropriate medical care.

Beverley Robinson has a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and is a qualified reflexologist who has been
practicing since 1994. She has brought relaxation and relief to many clients over the years.

Reflexology as we know it today was developed by three doctors; in 1917 Dr William Fitzgerald, an ENT (ear, nose, throat) specialist, developed the theory of vertical zones in the body; in the 1930's Dr Joe Shelby Riley who along with his muscle therapist, Eunice Ingham, worked on the theory of horizontal maps on the feet and hands (Ingham also published two books); and Dr Nogier, a French neurosurgeon who worked on a theory of a map of the body on the ears.

Bill Flocco, a reflexologist in the USA popularised the integration of hand, foot and ear reflexology in recent years, and has published books and refined maps on the ear, adapted from the French and the Chinese. Knowledge of reflexology may go as far back as 2500 B. C. It is practiced in many different countries today
