About Refugee Talent

Refugee Talent matches refugees looking for work with companies offering opportunities. We were created from the Sydney Techfugee hackathon.

Refugee Talent Description

Refugee Talent founders, Nirary Dacho and Anna Robson met at the Sydney Techfugee Hackathon in November 2015. They joined together to solve the problem of refugees struggling to get their first local work experience in their new country. The solution Refugee Talent – is a digital platform to connect skilled refugees with companies offering short and long term job opportunities.

Our partners Talent Beyond Boundaries are thrilled to announce the release of their newest report “Global Refugee Talent: Business Leaders Share Insights on the Skills and Potential of the Global Refugee Talent Pool”. The report is being released in the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
It includes reflections from 10 corporate partners, including Australian employers John Holland, IRESS and Harvey Beef, about their experiences remotely recruiting talented refugees. When TBB began its pilot project to link refugees with international employment we were often asked whether companies would be willing to recruit refugees internationally. This report shows resoundingly that yes, companies are keen to make this happen. http://talentbeyondboundaries.org/s/TBB-B usinessPerspective…

Last week our Co-Founder Anna attended the Social Enterprise World Forum 2018 in Edinburgh for Refugee Talent. It was great to hear about businesses such as WildHearts Group who provide stationary to businesses such as Deloitte and Johnson and Johnson and use the profits for social change such as micro loans. The conference itself worked with over 40 social enterprises in their supply chain with expenditure of £412,000 (GDP) from an overall budget of £764,000.

Meet another one of our success stories Sharifa,
“Hi, my name is Sharifa Rahimi and I am from Afghanistan I have been in Australia for six years and finished my studies on September 2017. After my studies I worked with one of my family friends for a few months. I was looking for jobs online to find a part-time job for myself but it was really hard to find one because of my lack of local experience.
Until my caseworker who was working at Red Cross told me about Gabrielle fro...m Red Crosses Employment who was running that program. She set me up for workshops how to write a resume and cover letter. And then she set me up with a mentor and someone from a company who wanted to help me find jobs and how to write a good resume.
Karina was my mentor and sending my resume to organisations and one of them was Refugee Talent. They contacted me that a company called Plutora was looking for an Office Allrounder, so Karina told me and I went for the interview and I got accepted which I am very happy and thankful for. I don’t think I would have been employed if Refugee Talent wasn’t here.”

Refugee Talent attended the Regions of Welcome conference in Toowoomba today. Toowoomba is a great example of successful regional resettlement. Many more regional areas are looking to attract skilled refugees and migrants to their towns and RT can help match regional employers with the right talent.
