Kick the tyres and light the fires! Wednesday is off to a cracking start as we tackle hump day :-) Taking on hazardous environments and tasks is all about appropriate risk management. One of the best ways to learn about safety, risk assessment, dynamically changing environments and the myriad of factors at play is to experience it in full swing, under the watchful eyes of our team. At some point, you need to feel the heat, wear the gear, face the flame and tackle the realit...y. There's no slideshow out there that can replace the real thing. The key is to do it with great teachers, in realistic simulations where you can genuinely learn. Don't you think it's about time you took that step in your training? Out amongst the elements this week are team members Gideon and Craig who are working with the crew from AGL on oversnow travel and alpine survival. Being well prepared is the key to safety in the alpine environment. . . #riskresponse #rescue #training #alpine #oversnow #winter #snow #survival #snowmobile #victoria #fallscreek @ Alpine National Park

Snow, Snakes and Safety. The team have a wide variety of jobs on this busy Tuesday. Alpine survival in Falls Creek, Snake relocation in Sydney and Safety out in Broken Hill. With a diverse and experienced team, nothing is impossible #riskresponse #rescue #rawandreal

"We came in as a team, we all leave as a team" You know you have a great team and you've done the training right when these words come from the crew. . . #proud #team #teamwork #motivated #riskresponse #rescue #minesrescue #training

As far as rescue operations go, this was a big one. The key components to its success were international collaboration, expertise, teamwork, communication, information, motivation and most importantly the incredible PEOPLE. Well done to all involved and our thoughts for the family and friends of Saman Kunan. An extra special well done to Dr Richard Harris for his outstanding work. Cave diving is a high risk environment and the specialists who operate their are great risk managers. If you've only seen the news headlines, please read this, it's worth it.

Well done to the six newest members of the Underground Mine Rescue fraternity. For the past 7 days a group of CVO Emergency Response Team members have been learning the skills and knowledge to deploy into irrespirable atmospheres wearing specialised closed circuit breathing apparatus and complete tasks such as search and rescue operations and firefighting. No day of UG rescue is easy, and each step is earned. You should be very proud team (y) We hope that these are practiced skills that never need to be utilised in anger, but in the unlikely event you need to, you'll be prepared and capable and the miners can feel confident that you are on the way.

We love working with our friends at Team Rubicon Australia. They know how to get the most of each situation and our team get to work hard alongside them to maximise the learning. So much more than technical training, these courses are also about bringing out the confidence in individuals and the team in tough circumstances. Laughs, tears, stress, relief and everything in between, it's great to be able to deliver for those who help others. :-) Thanks again TRA (y)

Mine Rescue Monday was a foamy underground adventure. Learning the tools of the trade. High Expansion (Hi-Ex) foam is used to control underground fires and is an interesting and sometimes entertaining experience for the participants as it dulls all the senses when travelling in it. Created by a Turbex foam generator, it is a very useful tool, combined with a brattice (temporary wall) an entire underground drive can be filled very quickly, with minimal water damage. #riskresponse #rescue #minerescue #emergencyresponse #training #underground #turbex #foam #firefighting

Incredibly sad news when a rescuer loses their life in the rescue effort. Our condolences to the team :-(

RR+R recently supported a chainsaw training initiative for the women in the Snowy Mountains region where the knowledge and practical application gained is vital in rural life. One of the course participants, Ruth stated - "I had the most incredible 2 days... it was so liberating.... THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!" We look forward to continuing our support of families in the rural community in the future. #chickswhochain

Anyone can learn to save a life, even our four legged friends :-)

Another fantastic course wraps up with the crew from Team Rubicon Australia. The Cert II Emergency Medical First Responder program is all about teamwork, continuous learning, challenges and life skills. As always, the support from the greyshirts was second to none and allowed for a rewarding experience for all involved. We hope that you all walk away with your heads held high, you certainly earned it! :-)

User

Participant, Wendy stated - "the practical training was very beneficial, my confidence was built through the hands on experience. They encouraged me to practice using a fire extinguisher!"
RR+R invites YOU to attend their upcoming Fire Awareness, Prevention & Extinguishment (Wollongong - Support Centre , 04/07/2018)

There's nothing quite like getting immersed and experiencing the pressure, the sweat, the noise and the blood. Train hard, rescue easy with @teamrubiconaus . . #riskresponse #rescue #team #training #tra #greyshirts #moulage #medical #ems

Working Safely around Aircraft. Made even more technical within the alpine environment by weather and variable ground conditions like snow. Here, a Resort Alpine Rescue course participant marshals a Bell 206 onto a field landing zone within Perisher Valley.

Rain, hail, shine, snow, wind, day or night. Search and Rescue is not just a fair weather sport. So your training should reflect that. Have now completed Heights, Confined Spaces and First Aid with the guys at RRR. Each time is a great learning experience, gaining all the knowledge required all while applying it to real life (realistic) scenarios. These guys really understand and care about what they are teaching and go above and beyond to make sure everyone in the course gains the skills necessary
