Riverina Police District Description

Wagga Wagga is one of Australia's leading regional cities. It is a nursery for Australian sporting champions and is the home for the National Art Glass Gallery, extensive gardens, Defence bases Australian Army Kapooka and Forest Hill R. A. A. F, and Charles Sturt University. The city's shopping centre includes major chains stores through boutique shops and the wide variety and number of cultural and sporting clubs reflects the dept of our community. The Wagga Wagga Livestock Marketing Centre with capacities of 30, 000 sheep and 4, 000 cattle is one of the State's major centres.

The Wagga Wagga LAC is broken down into 4 Clusters: Wagga Wagga the head station, Northern Cluster (Temora, Ariah Park and Ardlethan), Central Cluster (Junee, Coolamon and Ganmain) and Southern Cluster (Tarcutta, Lockhart and The Rock), comprising 10 Police Sectors.

Wagga Wagga is 518 km by rail from Sydney and 432 km from Melbourne on the main Southern Line. It is 185. 6 m (608 ft) above sea level and situated on the Sturt Highway which joins the Hume Highway 48km to the east. It is the junction of the Sturt Highway and the Trunk road known as the "Olympic Way", which enables travellers by road to proceed to and from Sydney via Cootamundra, Cowra, Bathurst and The Blue Mountains area, instead of travelling via the Hume Highway.

Scam Warning
Australian police are aware of an email scam where users are requested to pay bitcoin to prevent the release of embarrassing footage. The scammers attempt to establish credibility by including one of the user’s actual passwords, sourced from previous data leaks published on the internet. The threats are not credible and no footage exists. The emails should be disregarded.
Police within the Riverina Police District have taken reports of this nature in recent weeks and are calling on members of the public to be wary of fraudulent emails and to not fall for this scam.

Detectives from the Riverina Police District have arrested and charged a 19 year old Wagga Wagga man overnight; with Armed Robbery.
Police will allege that just after 6:00am yesterday, two heavily disguised males entered a Mt Austin service station brandishing a large machete.
The males assaulted the 28 year old male employee who was forced to open the till. The offenders stole an amount of cash and made good their escape in a stolen white Ford Focus.
... About 1pm, Police from the Riverina PD Proactive Team approached a 19 year old male inside a licensed premises at Ashmont. The male was searched and proceeds from the armed robbery located upon him; including a key to the stolen Ford Focus and some jewellery.
The male was arrested and subsequently charged with robbery whilst armed, goods in custody, deal with proceeds of crime and breach of bail. He was refused bail to appear before the Wagga Wagga Local Court on Tuesday 30 October 2018.
Police later recovered the stolen Ford in Ashmont and are now seeking to locate the second offender and the owner of the stolen jewellery that was contained within the cases pictured.

Three men will face court today, charged following an alleged armed robbery in Wagga Wagga.
Strike Force Edgecliffe was established by officers from the Riverina Police District to investigate a number of serious offences recently committed in the Wagga Wagga area.
On Wednesday 10 October 2018, police were alerted to a stolen Mitsubishi Triton utility parked on Peter Street.
... Officers attended, and spoke to two men seen nearby.
During a search of the vehicle, officers located property believed to have been stolen during a break and enter of a home at Lockhart.
The vehicle and property were seized for forensic examination.
On Sunday 16 October 2018, two men attended a home on Bulolo Street, Ashmont and threatened the occupants, with an electronic stun device and a firearm, before stealing cash and a Mitsubishi ASX.
The vehicle was later located on Travers Street and seized for forensic examination.
Following inquiries, police stopped a vehicle on Temerloah Avenue, Tolland about 3pm yesterday (Thursday 18 October 2018), and arrested two men, aged 31.
During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly located and seized methamphetamine.
Both men were taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station.
Later the same day, a 24-year-old man was arrested on Callaghan Street, Ashmont after a short foot pursuit and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station.
The 24-year-old man was charged with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, break and enter house etc steal, and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
The 31-year-old man was charged with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, and possess prohibited drug.
The other 31-year-old man was charged with drive conveyance taken without consent of owner (x2), and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit (x2).
Police will allege during an FPO search of the man’s home, officers located two electronic stun devices.
The trio were refused bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Friday 19 October 2018).

Teenage boy dies after single-vehicle crash - near Yerong Creek
A teenage boy has died following a single-vehicle crash on a rural property near Yerong Creek today.
Police have been told a utility containing three teenage boys were on the property, about 10.45am (Thursday 11 October 2018) when it rolled.
... Two teenage boys were ejected from the rear of the vehicle. One of the boys, died at the scene.
The driver and the rear passenger, sustained minor injuries and were taken to Wagga Rural Referral Hospital in a stable condition.
Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Inquiries into the cause of the crash are ongoing with examination of the scene expected to continue for some hours.

Community assistance required to locate stolen Volkswagn Tiguan registered number CHM30S (NSW)
This vehicle was stolen about 2.00am on Wednesday 10/10/18 from a residence in Vincent Road Lake Albert.
Police believe that the offenders broke into the occupied house and stole a purse and contents - including the vehicle keys.
