Riverview Hotel

I’m sure it’s a good pub but called at 4.30pm for a 5pm booking to eat Sunday roast with group of 6. Turned up at 5pm and roast was sold out. I guess at least the roast must be good if it’s selling so fast. But they could have given warning it was running low etc as we made quite a bit of effort to get there.

Food is very good. Pub interior could do with a renovation, its an iconic bar looking a bit frayed. Otherwise its a good spot to eat.

Friendly and prompt service, highly recommend the beef cheek as a main. Entre and desert were not outstanding, but still high quality. Family friendly restaurant, bookings recommended.

Reasonable quality meal, and decent enough wine. However wine portion size was less than remarkable. Regardless, was a nice enough dinner until after paying the bill, we were confronted by the floor manager who informed us that we had paid the wrong bill and owed another $30. In the middle of the dining floor, standing infront of all the other patrons and staff, we felt castigated and confronted like common thieves. The unsympathetic waiter grinned emotionlessly, did not take anything off the bill, apologised half heartedly, resuming his seemingly robotic demeanour.

Left a reasonable night with an unnecessary sour taste.

Complete disappointment

Nice traditional 'English' style pub with great tap beers and very good pub grub. Restaurant upstairs is even better food!

I admit that I'm combining my two visits into one review...but both are excellent....!!

First off...these guys do the absolute best Sunday Roast around. It was in the Pub part (not upstairs restaurant) and it is fabulous! Fresh veggies, amazing roast potatoes along with more-than-enough beef. Brilliant!

Secondly, my partner and I went there on Saturday lunch time. Granted it was quiet when we were there, but the gents behind the bar...were gents. Nothing was too much trouble; they were friendly, attentive, polite and all-round spot-on. Just what you want in your local. Thanks guys for making our Saturday afternoon so chilled.

Great work Riverview - we'll be back!!

Great food, staff and atmosphere

Worst bar staff ever, I have always loved the Riverview but todays service was lacking, the staff paid no attention to who was waiting at the bar I finally got served after a very long wait and when I told the guy who served me that while there was only four groups at the bar he served the last people first and overlooked me and the other groups that had been waiting around, he just shrugged and said I didn't see you....how about looking - that would be a start- .... serving anyone who stands near the till is lazy and he just gave me a so what shrug, no apology (that would have been all I needed), the other four staff were busy collecting one glass at a time, I had plenty of time to look at that instead of sitting with my friends, why could they see that that one useless bartender needed help? After at least 20 minutes of standing around I was asked by three staff if I needed a drink, total disorganisation and lack of service, I will give you another chance Riverview but pick up your game, you would have got more $$$ out of me if the service was better.

Very good meals. Service terrific, staff friendly. Great for casual catch up (though not for quiet chats 😄). Very cosy and warm setting!

Slow service but it was new years Eve. Steak was excellent.

Great food and drinks with a vintage feel in the main bar. The restaurant upstairs makes delicious high end meals.

Great pub. Happy hour from 5-7pm daily with $5 pints and selection of wine. Food is quick and service is good.

Great little place tucked away in the back of Balmain. Great pizza selection.

With great sadness we have decided that the Riverview had closed its doors for the last time. Dominique and cristian would like to thank all the girls and staff and managers that have come thru the years with out you we could not have done it
We had some great years in the venue and some sad ones but we had a great times with all our great customers
... Also a special thanks to Sebastian and Ricardo for there great help and for doing it for free to purely help us
