About Romy Kunitz Psychology

Qualified Clinical and Developmental Psychologist (Cum Laude),

Romy Kunitz Psychology Description

If you're feeling down or overwhelmed, it may be because managing your day-to-day schedule often leaves little space to register emotional experiences until they hit a fever pitch.

Although many of us adapt by pushing the pain into the background, these hidden disappointments, hurts, and resentments don't disappear; instead they grow and fester. Creating a safe place to process this pain is vital, and can free us to realize and accomplish our goals.

Effective therapy should offer not only consistent support and symptom relief, but also a chance to become familiar with unpleasant feelings and to understand ourselves and our lives more clearly.

Romy is a qualified Clinical and Developmental Psychologist (Cum Laude), Clinical Social Worker and an Executive Coach. She has had 12 years of private practice experience and her specific clinical interests include stress management, eating disorders, personal loss, trauma and parenting.

In general she enjoys working with working with adults, couples and teenagers who express a wide range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, life transitions and lacking satisfaction in their academic or professional lives.

For 13 years Romy has provided employee assistance (including trauma counselling) to an international banking group, and she has also provided both on and off site counselling to a range of corporates. Romy has run several support groups on topics such as Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia and Chronic Illnesses (most specifically cancer).

Romy is frequently called upon to write magazine articles on topics relating to eating disorders, stress management, and infant separation anxiety. She has regularly appeared on tv programmes, documentaries & news channels to discuss topics such as New Year’s resolutions, exam stress, eating disorders, body dysmorphia, body image disturbance, and the recently diagnosed “muscle morphia”.

Romy strives to create a non-judgmental, warm and interactive environment in which she and you can grapple with your issues together. She uses a pragmatic approach, applying psycho dynamic and cognitive behavioral therapies. Although therapy is not easy, the process can be meaningful and life-changing when done with someone you trust.
