Great place to visit for anyone interested in architecture and design
The wallaby in the garden was a lot more entertaining than the somehow sad if Mondrian-esque fibro house. Pardon me if that makes me a philistine.
Delightful way to spend a Sunday: Stunning location, phenomenal house, crucial part of of Sydney's architectural history.
Visited this house on Sunday 10 Dec 2016 and it is certainly a trip back to the 1950s. Absolutely brilliant house, with a design which would look more modern than some of the homes of today. A time capsule, with the original furniture from the period. Surrounded by a peaceful garden, it was just lovely.
It was a stifling day - and the undulating hills and breezy green trees provided little relief. In spite of this - Rose Seidler house - with it's elevated position - was surprisingly cool. (Temperature and design.)
There's no ducted air conditioning - but there was a dishwasher (not that that would keep the place cold!)
"Where's the TV?" asked our 9 year old daughter.
"It's here..."
And I pointed to the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the backyard.
She didn't understand.
The master bedroom off of the verandah is tres cool. Check it out.
There's something of the bright colours of Mondrian here, or the curving designs of Miro - painted throughout the house.
The House is worth a visit - even if it is on the other side of Sydney!
PS We put in an offer - but the house was just above our budget! (At the moment ;-)
PPS Don't sit on the furniture!
Wow, this place is terrific.
So interesting and fascinating to understand the background to this terrific home which lead to much of Sydney's architectural history thanks to the 180 plus buildings Harry Seidler designed.
Opened every Sunday as part of Open Sydney Museums.
