ZERO STARS (but not possible to list 0)

Myself and extended family had bought different pieces from Seaspray previously (including amethyst ring and Thomas Sabo pendants, necklace, ring) and also had repairs completed. In the past I have been happy but after this last experience I would NEVER return and would advise others against using / visiting this jeweller. Short story - unprofessional staff and ruined necklace BAD ‘repair’ service - long story below! I believe Seaspray has declined in recent times; go elsewhere!

I had a beautiful piece made by an artist; rose gold necklace (solid) with handcrafted pendent. Above the pendant was a gold plated ring that I wanted cut off as would sometimes hit pendant and plating was fading. The sales person did not listen to my request and the jeweller cut the clasp / chain as opposed to the ring. Designer had made an unusual clasp that could only be opened with tools (jeweller should have been able to do this) but while could have been opened as opposed to cut so not sure why this was done (except that the quicker approach was to cut it off).

Without discussing a solution when saw, horrified what had happened, the jeweller put a circular SILVER (or silver colour) loop OFF CENTRE (sits as side instead of back where chain was) again: without asking what I wanted done. Another salesperson said the silver loop was off centre as the clasp was (false) or removing the ring had changed the centre of the chain (didn’t make sense as ring fitted through a hole in top and base. Can only assume they had cut more of the chain off (no idea why) before putting on silver loop. It was a lazy ‘fix’ and if I knew they were going to do it I WOULD HAVE SAID “No thank you” and just left to find another jeweller to discuss possibilities before deciding on what to do...

What made me angry was when we were leaving and 2nd sales person said “Next time please don’t come in when we’re doing a million things” and chastised us for bringing in a repair without booking it in previously. I calmly explained that I had emphasised I was happy to do so (book in and pick up later) when discussed the job; noted priority was on getting it done properly. Additionally, if they were too busy to do it as requested they should have told me, not rushed and ultimately ruined the chain. Her response was “well she (first sales person) is new and should have told you that we like people to book in repairs”. It was an incredibly rude and disrespectful (and inaccurate re our discussion); had been distressed but polite during entire incident and she was very dismissive.

I could have accepted this was a misunderstanding but what was unforgivable was that a) they didn’t ask what alternative clasp / solution I wanted (would have been more than willing to pay for and return for a solution I was happy with) and as it is need to find a jeweller to fix it anyway as off centre and silver not rose gold. They should not have made assumptions b) second sales person tried to pass blame onto me for wanting it done on the spot (without actually knowing that we had not expected this and had emphasised we were happy to return) and WE DID NOT RECEIVE AN APOLOGY. The situation had been better handled.... I’ve worked in customer service in the past and there was a way I could have remained a customer (in fact was actually going to purchase a piece that day) but so disappointed with how they handled the situation that I left upset, will not go back there and advise others from doing so. I do believe it is telling how businesses handle bad situations and what this showed me was that Seaspray do not value their customers.

Post script: went over to Gary’s at Woy Woy after and staff were amazing!

I highly recommend Seaspray Jewellery. I have had 3 cherished rings remodelled and the end result was outstanding on all 3. One of the rings was my 1977 Opal and blue Sapphire engagement ring. In complete consultation with David, the Master Jeweller, we redesigned my ring including some coloured Sapphires from another ring. My Opal was repolished to give it a new lease of life and encased in a beautiful rose gold bezel to protect if for years to come and surrounded by the Sapphires in yellow gold. The end result is a beautifully made and unique ring I am very proud to wear every day.
