About Security & Defence Plus

Security and Defence PLuS is an academic research and educational collaboration aimed at advancing the AUKUS agreement, between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America. This new initiative provides independent, original knowledge and understanding of national and global security issues and serves as a keystone in the PLuS Alliance, a partnership between Arizona State University (ASU), King's College London (King's), and the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney aimed at solving pressing educational and societal challenges. Security and Defence PLuS was inspired by the AUKUS agreement announced in September 2021, a first-of-its-kind partnership between the governments of Australia, the UK, and the USA to foster deeper integration of security and defence priorities, including through cooperation in science, technology, industry, intelligence, and the military. This academic collaboration seeks to advance the AUKUS partnership. It brings together researchers and practitioners from ASU, King's, and UNSW - three institutions globally renowned for their innovation, expertise, and scholarship across security, defence, and international affairs, and each with a track record for providing insight and expertise to their respective foreign and defence ministries. Security and Defence PLuS enhances and supports the official efforts of the three governments through scholarship, policy-focused research, and the generation of new ideas for the public discourse, ultimately reinforcing the competitive statecraft of this highly capable team of allies.
